Declarations of Interest None Minutes Discussion Results/ Action 2. Approval of Minutes Approval of minutes for meeting held on February 8, MOTION: Approve the minutes of the February 8, 2016 BAAC meeting. CARRIED 3. Iroquois Park Improvements Leslie Seal, Landscape Architect provided a powerpoint presentation regarding improvements to Iroquois Park, located at 4203 Longmoor Drive, Ward 4. Construction is proposed for fall 2016 and will be ready for Community engagement took place in the fall of Proposed improvements will include the removal of the baseball diamond and relocating the existing playground to from the north side of the park to a location in the centre of the park to improve Leslie Seal can be reached for comments at leslie.seal@burlington.ca Page 1 of 5

Additional improvements will include reconfiguring the parking lot to include 3 accessible parking spots, construction of a new asphalt pathway, shading from additional tree planting as well as 4 additional bike racks. Comments from the committee included adding a basketball court or skate park to replace the old playground structure. There will be minimal impact to the park use. Please visit Park-Improvements.asp 4. Accessibility Coordinator s Report 5. Ontario Volunteer Service Awards Judi provided an update as of March o Community Gardens will have a new design for raised beds and additional features such as multiple access points. If successful, the new design will replace the previous raised beds. o Sims Square has had the following improvements: Pedestal-type power door operators install at the universal washroom and front entrance Visual fire alarms have been installed in public areas Safety strips installed on the elevator lobby mirror Congratulations to Brian Sharpe who has been recognized as a recipient for the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards that will be held on March 30, Brian is recognized for his continuous 5 years of commitment and dedicated service to BAAC. The awards are presented at special ceremonies held across Ontario where recipients are presented with a stylized trillium service pin acknowledging their years of service. 3 receive a personalized certificate. Each recipient is invited to bring one guest. Nominating organizations are also invited to bring two representatives to the award ceremony Work Plan 2016 draft work plan was discussed and work plan will be circulated by . o Tricia asked BAAC to provide feedback regarding restaurant review project and explore Planat program for Burlington and add to workplan. Judi will provide information for Rick Hanson s Planat program and BAAC. 7. Accessiblity Awards Adam provided an update on the sub-committee activities to date. o November 2016 date is TBD. o Will be held in the evening to allow for more attendance. o Possible locations include BPAC, 2 hotels and The Ruby restaurant at Tansley Woods. Locations need to be accessible by transit. o Possible corporate intiatives to assist with sponsoring event. o Possible key note speakers were discussed. 8. Accessibility Certification Program 9. Committee Liaison / Sub-Committee Activities Adam to provide update at BAAC meeting on April 14 th Public Education: o Arthur Rendall was added to the committee. o Committee will focus on outreach through tradeshows, fairs, and public education which will be discussed at a future meeting set by Judi and will include facilitated discussion. o Key measurements could include more applicants Judi to organize the first Public Education sub-committee meeting as a facilitated discussion. 4 received for volunteer recruitment. o Improve our advertising by ordering a new banner to showcase what is it that BAAC does and what has been accomplished. Site Plan Review: o 6 new site plans for review o Jennifer and Doug offered to review site plans for Judi. Age Friendly o Name changed to Active Adults Project. o City hired a consultant to evaluate existing research develop a specific framework for Burlington with a focus on inclusion, transportation, walkability, safety and welcoming seniors. Inclusivity Advisory Committee n/a Seniors Advisory Committee o Parks and Recreation working to create more recreational senior hubs across City of Burlington as Senior s Centre is over crowded. o Making connection with BAAC and seniors and improvements through public education and promotion. Transportation Advisory Committee (ITACT) n/a 10. Upcoming Events Halton Community Resource Fair April 30th 10-2 p.m. (Milton) o Doug and Arthur have offered to person the booth Senior s Health and Wellness Show National Access Awareness Week (NAAW) May th Annual Guelph Accessibility Conference Judi to provide site plans for review to Doug and Jennifer. Julie to send meeting dates for ITAC to Susan to coordinate as alternate represtentative for ITAC. Tricia to send out to request additional volunteers for the event. Page 4 of 5
