1 Wednesday, August 23 WELCOME WEEKEND 2017 STUDENT SCHEDULE Residential students will move into their residence hall and check in for Welcome Weekend from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Commuter students and their families will check in for Welcome Weekend at 3:30 p.m. in Yager Hall, Room a.m. to 1 p.m. Consider This Home Base Welcome to your new home on Oyaron Hill! Residential students check in to individual residence halls to receive a personalized Welcome Weekend schedule, room key, and more. 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Welcome Weekend Central Yager Hall, 4 th floor Check off items on your to-do list! Pick up your new student t-shirt and other giveaways, & Dewar Union, and meet bank representatives and vendors in Yager Hall. Visit Dewar Union to receive your 4 th floor mailbox combination and pick up pre-ordered textbooks. Note: You ll receive your student ID card at your Matriculation Ceremony (see below). Matriculation Ceremony see personalized schedule for assigned time Students and families meet in small groups with College President Margaret L. Drugovich. Students will sign the Matriculation Book, a ceremonial tradition signifying membership in our learning community and the official beginning of each student s academic career. Yager Hall, 1 st Floor, Yager Museum 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Picnic Lunch Frisbee Field Enjoy a complimentary lunch for you and your family. (Rain location: Dewar Union) 3:30-6:30 p.m. Commuter Student Arrival & Welcome (Required of all commuter students) Yager Hall, Room 321 New commuter students will receive a personalized Welcome Weekend schedule, t-shirt and giveaways upon check in. Commuter students are required to participate in the following sessions, as well as all Welcome Weekend activities: 3:30 p.m.: Arrival & Student and Family Welcome, Yager Hall, Room :30 p.m.: Matriculation Ceremony with President Margaret L. Drugovich 4:30 p.m.: Commuter Student Information Session, Yager Hall, Room 321 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Commuter Student Dinner, Dewar Union, The Commons 5:30-7:30 p.m. Meet Your Fellow Travelers Dewar Union, Dinner with your residence hall community. Meet in the lobby of your residence hall. The Commons 5:30 p.m.: Commuters 6 p.m.: Pine Lake (Meet in Dewar Union, Chesebro Room) 6 p.m.: Hilltop, Oyaron and Apartment Community 6:15 p.m.: Smith Hall & Townhouses 6:30 p.m.: vaness Hall & Leitzell Hall 6:45 p.m.: Holmes Hall, Saxton Hall, Wilder Hall 8-10:30 p.m. Know The Facts Individual Residence Halls This is a required meeting that you must attend to meet your building's Residential Life staff and other new students living in your residence hall, and to learn about policies & procedures. Location signs will be posted in each residence hall's main lobby. Social event to follow.
2 Thursday, August 24 9 a.m. Orientation Group Line-up for Opening Convocation Frisbee Field Meet your Orientation Leader on Frisbee Field before being escorted as a group to (Rain location: 2 nd Floor line up for the Opening Convocation Processional. Binder P.E. Center) Please wear your Hartwick t-shirt, distributed at check in, or a plain blue t-shirt. 10 a.m. Opening Convocation Binder P.E. Center, At this traditional ceremony signifying the start of the new academic year, you will be Lambros Arena formally welcomed to the Hartwick community. The ceremony includes a procession of new students, faculty, staff, and administrators in full academic regalia and remarks by Dr. Margaret L. Drugovich, Hartwick College President. 11:15 a.m. New Student Picture Elmore Field Immediately following the Convocation Recessional, join all new students for the traditional new student photo with President Drugovich. Following the picture, please take time to say goodbye to your family. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch Dewar Union, The Commons 1:15 & 2:45 p.m. Writing Placement Exam Golisano Hall, All new students are required to complete the Writing Placement exam to begin satisfying 2 nd & 3 rd Floor the writing competency graduation requirement. Students with last name A-L will complete Classrooms the exam 1:15-2:15 p.m.; students with last name M-Z will complete the exam 2:45-3:45 p.m. Chemistry Placement Exam (by invitation only) Golisano Hall, This exam is required for students enrolled in CHEM 107. Students with last name A-L Room 103 will complete the exam 2:45-3:45 p.m. and students with last name M-Z at 1:15-2:15 p.m. 3:55 p.m. Meet Orientation Groups on Frisbee Field prior to the following rotation: 4-7:30 p.m. Take the Next Step Yager Hall, Your choices and decisions will directly impact your college experience. This required meeting Slade Theatre will introduce you to our core values, community standards and the Code of Student Conduct. Anderson Center for the Arts, Knowing how to stay safe and respond in an emergency is key to your personal safety Anderson Theatre as you embark on this new journey at Hartwick College. Wick 101 is a graduation requirement as part of the Liberal Arts in Practice general education curriculum. s Meet with your Orientation Leader and fellow new students to get better acquainted with classmates and discuss your summer reading assignment, Wine To Water, by Doc Hendley. Library Tours Learning how to navigate library resources is an important step to student success. This required session will be scheduled in rotation by Orientation Group. Check your personalized schedule for specific time and meet your Orientation Leader in the Yager Lobby at that time.
