1 October 6, 2008 Dear Leader: Enclosed please find registration materials for the 2008 Fall Kiwanis Family Growth Summit and Board Meeting (a.k.a. Tri-K) to be held at the Holiday Inn Portland Airport the weekend of November 7 9, A longstanding Pacific Northwest tradition, the Kiwanis Family Conference is special because it provides the opportunity for all three Board of Trustees of the Pacific Northwest (Kiwanis, Key Club and Circle K) to meet together. It is always a great weekend of Kiwanis Family fellowship and camaraderie! As in the past, we are asking that all of you call the Holiday Inn Portland Airport directly to make your room reservations. The number is We have negotiated a Kiwanis rate of $94.00 (+ tax) Single or Double. Our Group Booking Code is KIW. Please make certain that you use this code and identify yourself as being part of the Kiwanis conference in order to receive this rate. This will also insure that the gets credit for your room. That s very important because much of the extensive meeting room space that we use for this meeting is provided to us on a reduced fee basis provided that we are able to meet our room block commitments to the hotel. Without the credit given to the district for filling these rooms, we will have to pay some hefty meeting room rental fees which will eventually translate into higher event registration fees and/or district dues! In order to guarantee and secure a room at the Kiwanis rate, you need to make your reservations by Tuesday, October 21 st. After that, the hotel may or may not be able to provide a room at the Kiwanis rate depending on availability. Please note that because of its proximity to Portland airport, participants flying in may take advantage of the hotel s free airport shuttle. Your Conference Registration Form, with payment and meal options marked, needs to be back to us at the Office by Friday, October 31 st. Dinner on Friday is on your own but the weekend will kickoff with the Kiwanis Board
2 Meeting beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday. I know that many of you will plan to travel after work on Friday but please try to join us by 7:00 PM. It s a really important part of Governor Wendy s plans for the weekend! You will not need to be at the hotel any earlier than that unless, of course, you are a member of the Finance Committee, Past Governor s Committee, PNW Kiwanis Foundation Board member or the TAG Team. See the enclosed schedule for those meeting times. A highlight of the Kiwanis Family weekend this is year is the Growth Summit which will take place on Saturday. See the attached flyer for details. Lt. Governors should especially note the individuals in their division who are encouraged to attend and extend an invitation to them to join us! They should plan on attending the Maximizing Kiwanis Service forum Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and then join all of us in The 3 A s to Achieving Growth in the afternoon. Dress for the weekend is Business or Kiwanis Casual except for the Saturday Night Banquet. To get us ready for our convention travel next year, the dress for the Banquet will be Tacky Tourist! Governor Wendy will be offering prizes for the best (tackiest) costumes. In conjunction with the Banquet, we will also be holding a White Elephant Auction to benefit the Outreach Fund and help our CKI and Key Club counterparts defray the cost of this weekend. Please bring an item for the auction and join in the fun. Remember, one person s trash is often somebody else s treasure! (Note unsold items that are not reclaimed will not be donated to charity or tossed!) Gary and Rebecca join me in looking forward to seeing all of you at what promises to be the most exciting and interesting Kiwanis Family Conference ever! See you in Portland! Sincerely, Cleve Parker Secretary & Treasurer Enclosures
