5 MESSAGE FROM CHIEF JAMES LANG 2012 has been another challenging year for the city of Sandusky and the Sandusky Police Department with several monumental events that have taken place, both tragic and commendable. The goals of the Sandusky Police Department and the administrative staff are to provide quality services to the community with professionalism and compassion. During the month of June, Bike Week drew several thousand people to downtown Sandusky and the surrounding area. Bike week presents several challenges in providing safety to the large amount of visitors. The Sandusky Police Department along with the Sandusky Police Reserve Unit was able to make Ohio Bike Week a safe and memorable one for all. The staffing and development of Community Oriented Police operation takes the police officers into the community allowing for more personal interaction and support with the citizens of the community. This year we only had one COP station which was located at 2012 Fox Run Trail. With the wonderful donation from Cedar Point (Cedar Fair) of $50,000, the Police Department was able to make several improvements to the interior and work stations. With the remodeling of the patrol room, repainting, new lighting, new carpet and new computers it has not only increased time management but also built better morale. With the remodeling of our training room and the new Smart board also makes our police department more efficient for our training needs. We are now able to have more training in house, saving the city and taxpayers, tax dollars. This year we had 7 homicides, the most ever in the city of Sandusky, with the aid and cooperation of all law enforcements agencies in the area all of the suspects are incarcerated, awaiting trial. The Sandusky Police Detectives and Patrol Division worked endless hours to bring the suspects to justice and help make our community a safer place to live. The Sandusky Police Department continues to move forward developing advanced officer training, analyzing department operations and evaluation of physical structure of the police department in conjunction with the citizens committee. The Sandusky Police Department consists of professional and dedicated officers that operate under the motto PROTECT and SERVE all of the citizens of Sandusky. The Sandusky Police Department continues to strive for excellence through improved communications with the community and the city commission. As my time at the police department comes to a close I would like to Thank the community and all of the fine officers at Sandusky Police Dept. for all of your support. It has been an Honor to serve all of you. Respectfully Submitted, James Lang, Interim Police Chief
