1 Fort Knox AUSA Winter/Spring 2016 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE HOSPARUS TEA & AUCTION Greetings Fort Knox Chapter, AUSA Members! Summer is upon us and as always, AUSA, Fort Knox Chapter remains in high gear!!! This past Sunday, I was stopped at a red light when a van with the logo of WVU ROTC pulled up next to me. My thoughts immediately went to welcoming our ROTC folks that will be training with us this summer. Please make sure you are a part of reaching out and welcoming them; as well as their family/friends that will visit during the summer. AUSA will award one cadet from each class a leadership award from Leadership Training Course and the Leadership Development Advanced Course. On June 3, 2016, our AUSA, Fort Knox Chapter Golf Scramble will be held at Lindsey Golf Course. We are in need of golfers, sponsors, and any door prizes that our AUSA members would like to donate. Please see attachments for additional information. We will have several changes of Commands over the summer. One will be MG Peggy Combs CG of US ARMY Cadet Command and Ft. Knox to MG Christopher Hughes. This ceremony will be held on May 25 th. AUSA would like to thank MG Combs for her leadership and support of our Ft. Knox Community and we wish her the best as her next ARMY journey begins. I realize more and more every day that the quote: time flies is not just a quote, it s a TRUE statement! And yes, believe it or not, it s time for our Annual Golf Scramble! This year s event will be Friday, June 3, 2016 at Lindsey Golf Course on Fort Knox. Please reference the attachments Regarding the scramble and hole Sponsorship levels. If you have questions, or you would like for us to pick up your door prizes or auction items, please contact one of the following: Rick Bennett ( ) rbennett@fortknoxfcu.net) or MG (Ret) Bill Barron at In closing, please ask a friend or co-worker to join AUSA, Fort Knox Chapter as we continue to provide Ft. Knox with a STRONG voice for our community in Washington DC. As always, thank you for your continued collaboration and support of our ARMY families here at Fort Knox. Course description and program at the attachments. The Master Leader Course bridges the gap between the Senior Leader Course and the Sergeants Major Course. The 108 hours of instruction are broken down into three modules -- Foundation, Leadership and Army Profession, and Army and Joint Operation, said Sgt. Maj. William Gentry, the Curriculum Development and Education Division sergeant major. It provides the Army with senior noncommissioned officers who are self-aware and NCOs of character, confidence and presence with the skills necessary to shape the joint operational environment, overcome the friction created by uncertainty and operate in an ambiguous environment. This course is geared for the sergeants first class and the newly promoted master sergeants to enable them to perform the duties of a senior staff NCO or operations master sergeant in the S3. The course will give them the confidence to go into that staff role, with the education and institutional knowledge to be a productive member of a senior staff. The ceremony on 29 Mar, was the second Pilot graduating class consisting of RA, AR, NG, and one Airman. On April 1, 2016 several chapter officers and members attended the First Army Division East Colors uncasing and Change of Responsibility ceremonies on Brooks Field at Fort Knox. 9 Membership One for One Attention Corporate Members: The chapter needs your help to ramp up corporate member strength. We are asking that each corporate member recruit one new corporate member. Some businesses ask what s in it for me? We think the answer is patriotism; doing something tangible Soldiers who voluntarily put their lives in harm s way for our nation s well-being. On April 29, 2016 chapter membership chairman Gene Gudenkauf met with the group from Echo Company 1st of the 5th Cav and their spouses and family member and presented Vietnam Veterans with the AUSA Vietnam Veterans Pin. See attached photos. Nearly all non-profit private organizations that work military affairs concentrate solely on pay and benefits; about one quarter of the Army s budget. AUSA works on the total Army budget including operations and maintenance, procurement, research and development, and construction and housing. Moreover AUSA advocates for the Total Army ; Soldiers and their families (active, guard, reserve, retired and veterans) and DA Civilians. We have included a corporate member application with this newsletter which provides more corporate member information. The chapter wants to track new applications. Please Bob Roush, VP at Large, at bnroush@wnndstream.net when you send in applications. Bob is also available should you have any questions or need support. Thank you.
