Children of Marines can apply for a scholarship from the Marine Corps Foundation. As a matter of fact, my daughter applied for and received a very generous scholarship from the Foundation that was a significant resource that allowed her to finish her Senior year at Gwynedd- Mercy University on time. Take the time to click on: to learn more about the Foundation and the lives that it has changed and uplifted. Liz McCleaster Public Affairs Officer/Newsletter Editor Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps League 36 Hillcrest Avenue Erdenheim, PA lmccleaster@hotmail.com "Our mission is simple and vital," said Margaret B. Davis, president and CEO of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. "In a world where Marines have sacrificed so much, we honor them by providing their children with more affordable access to critical education.

7 L/CPL Robert J. Slattery, Marine Corps League Det #206, NEWSLETTER, May #6 "PROGRESS REPORT ON BRENDAN MORROCCO" Brendan as you may remember is the solider that was the recipient of a double arm transplant. His dad Alex made a presentation to us at the Holiday social On Mon, Mar 30, 2015 at 09:12 PM, Brenda's dad, Alex Morrocco wrote: Hello Pete, Thank you very much for your . We're doing well. Brendan is also doing well. He is still at Walter Reed rehabbing the arms and hands and will probably be there through the summer and fall. I hope to have him home by the end of October. Next month he will likely undergo another surgery, this one will be on his right hand. That hand has not responded as well as the left hand has and the doctors are looking to help it a bit by fusing the thumb and taking the tendens from the thumb and moving them over to the index and middle fingers to try and give those fingers some more movement and strength. Hopefully it will be a quick recovery and he'll get back to therapy shortly thereafter. On the house front, we finally got the approval from the City to raise his house that was damaged during Sandy. It took two years but we were finally successful in getting approval. I plan on starting next month and hopefully will be done by the end of October. Please let me know when your detachment has any events so that I can support you. Thank you again for your support of Brendan! Respectfully Alex

9 L/CPL Robert J. Slattery, Marine Corps League Det #206, NEWSLETTER, May #8 "In-State Tuition in New Jersey for Vets" Military veterans from all states will qualify for in-state tuition at New Jersey's public college and universities under a new state law. The "New Jersey Tuition Equality for America's Military (NJTEAM) Act" (A3967) implements a federal law requiring in-state tuition rates for recent veterans and expands it to include veteran's spouses and children. Regardless of where they live, they will be considered New Jersey residents for tuition purposes. The law takes effect immediately. "VA UPDATES THE WAY IT DETERMINES ELIGIBILITY FOR VA HEALTH BENEFITS" Effective 2015, the VA eliminated the use of net worth as a determining factor for both health care programs and co-payment responsibilities. This change makes VA health care benefits more accessible to lower-income Veterans. Instead of combining the sum of Veterans income with their assets to determine eligibility for medical care and co-payment obligations, VA will now only consider a Veteran s gross household income and deductible expenses from the previous year. Elimination of the consideration of net worth for VA health care enrollment means that certain lower-income, non-service-connected Veterans will have less out-of- pocket costs. Over a 5-year period, it is estimated that 190,000 Veterans will become eligible for reduced costs of their health care services. In March 2014, VA eliminated the annual requirement for updated financial information. VA now uses information from the Internal Revenue Service and Social Security Administration to automatically match individual Veterans income information which reduces the burden on Veterans to keep their healthcare eligibility up to date. That change better aligned VA s health care financial assessment program with other federal health care organizations. Veterans may submit updated income information at >, or by visiting their nearby VA health care facility. For more information, visit > or call VA toll-free at VETS (8387). The new ez application form and instructions to follow are accessible on Slattery web site: ***UNDER 206 DROP DOWN BAR to VA FORM : IF YOU WISH TO MAIL IT IN *** "COMMANDANT'S CORNER" To All, Now that we all have met our tax obligations - I hope! We begin again the business of our normal financial lives. I am proud to be part of an organization that so competently aids the many financial needs of our Military, their families and other special needs. This is the real mission of the L/Cpl Robert J. Slattery Detachment 206. Our Marines Care Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity, has granted more than $90, to our many benefactors for the year 2014 and 2015 to date! We are living up to expectations! We look forward to continuing performance at these levels! We will soon submit our candidate for Dept. of NJ Marine of the Year Award. I hope to bring this back from the Convention in June! We are bringing our very successful Rose program back into focus at this time and will hopefully be able to produce convincing revenues again this year. This will take "all hands" to succeed here. Our first detachment audit is being taken thanks to member Jim Loizides. This MCL required function should be undertaken at least once per year. Jim is quite qualified, and I thank him for stepping up. Our member Eddie Neas has accomplished two major trips in this year, one to The Wounded Warriors Battalion at Camp Lejeune and the other to the Walter Reed National Medical Center. Both were very successful. The Lyons breakfast project has been receiving praise, and under the capable leadership of our Chaplain Dan Danzi, is expected to continue throughout this year. We will take a break in July and August and resume scheduling bi-monthly thereafter. It looks like a normally busy year ahead, and I ask of all that we pitch in and share the load. Volunteer what you can and enjoy the feeling that you are making a difference in many lives! Semper Fi, Robert Beck - Commandant L/Cpl Robert J.
