[Article mentions Dr. Allen s military service during World War I and his many community activities. A Farmington native, Dr. Allen practiced medicine in Clyde, NY. and was Postmaster there as well.] Allen was 44 years old when the US entered World War I, within the parameters for a physician officer. However, there appears to be little evidence of his military service beyond mention in his obituary and a state service card for service rendered in the state guard after the Armistice. His obituary indicates that he was a member of the Clyde American Legion Post, indicating veteran status.. Allen, George Smith. Information available on the 329 th Infantry regiment indicates that it was created in 1917 as part of the National Army to fight in World War I. After the war, it became part of the Army Reserve.
