1 RECORDS OF GERMAN FIELD COMMANDS: CORPS (Part III) 1 X. Armeekorps (X Army Corps) The X Army Corps was formed in 1935 as a corps and corps-area headquarters. It fought in Poland in 1939 and in the West in The corps played a significant part in the encircling operations which rolled up the Allied bridgehead at Dunkirk. It participated in the initial assault against Russia in June 194-1, crossing the Memel River and proceeding northward to Porkhov and Staraya Russa. The corps was continuously engaged in the Lake Ilmen area, centering around Staraya Russa and east of the Lovat River, until the latter part of It then withdrew to the vicinity of Michalkino. Early in 1944 the corps was engaged in farther withdrawal action south and westward, and in it retreated to the Riga defensive position in Latvia. Dates No. Roll 1st Frame la, Anlagen z. KTB.
