6 Secondary Mission Promote Greater Understanding of Korean/Foreign Culture via Early Education Promote and Coach Diversity Education, Acceptance of Different Culture and How to Broaden Lifetime Network Promote Korean Youth to become Korean Youth Ambassadors (KYA) who promote Alabama Promote Alabama via Retention and Association with Alabama Youth Ambassador (AYA) Provide AYA an Opportunity to Experience Alabama, Peer Educational Environment, their Lifestyle and/or a Global Leadership Program Experience 6
7 Provide AYA a Scholarship Opportunity to: Experience Elite Global/Korean Youth Leadership Training Experience Educational Environment, Korean Current and Historical Lifestyle, Traditional Food and more Tour Korean Historical sites (a few Thousand Years old historical sites and Learning Experience) Have one weekend of Home-Stay Experience with a Korean Peer GyeongSangBuk-Do Department of Education will carefully govern a Korean Peer Selection and the environment of Home-stay Screening Host the Korean Peer friend to one s School for Alabama Experience* Develop a long-term friendship *This is to offer a reciprocal relationship and to development a long term relationship if possible. All activities have to be approved by facilitating Agencies, School Staff and A-Keep. 7
8 During the Shilla Dynasty, around 540 A.D., The Hwarang Institution started as a National Project for Elite Youth Leadership Training. Its current unit was founded in 1970 and under governance of GyeongSangBuk-Do, South Korea. 8

Trust among friends ( gyo-u isin; 교우이신 ; 交友以信 ; 믿음으로벗을사귀고 ) 4. Never retreat in battle (imjeon mutwae; 임전무퇴 ; 臨戰無退 ; 싸움에나가서는물러서지않으며 ) 5. Never take a life without a just cause ( salsaeng yutaek; 살생유택 ; 殺生有擇 ; 살아있는것을함부로죽이지않는다 9
10 The Original Hwarang was an Elite Youth Leadership Training Unit founded around 540 A.D. and was formed by the Shilla Dynasty. Shilla Kingdom is known as one of the most Scientifically and Culturally Advanced Dynasties during their time of B.C. 57 A.D. 936 This Unit is founded in Traditional Ethnic Beliefs. The Hwarang Spirit has represented the Spiritual Models for Koreans ever since 540 A.D.! Current Institution was Founded in 1970 once again as a Korean National Project for Elite Youth Leadership Training Program under a Special Order of President Park, JungHee. This Current location is believed to be as near as possible to the origin of Shilla s Hwarang Institution 10

15 Primary focus for Alabama Youth Ambassadors: High school students 9 th -12 th grades Application Requirements: 1. A Completed Application Package with following items 2. Applicant Essay 3. Recommendation Letter 4. Transcripts Program Cost per Applicant: 1. $25 for Application Fee (non refundable) 2. $500 for Program Fee (if Selected) 3. This Program Fee includes all inclusive program cost. A-Keep Scholarship offers Elite Hwarang Global Leadership Program, Room, Board, All Educational Related Material Cost, International Airfare, Tour Site Admissions and Transportation cost during this program. It excludes any individual expenses and personal allowance. 15
