3 Greetings Thank you for your registration for the 2014 Seoul IMCoS Conference. Over seventy individuals have registered for the conference representing fifteen countries. Organizing committee has tried to show the vitality and peacefulness on East Asian traditional maps. With paper presentations in the morning, we will have opportunities to visit the Map Archives and Palace in the afternoon. Besides, social programs, such as map fairs, old map tours, tours before and after the conference are prepared. Please enjoy Korean traditional culture with maps during your stay in Korea. Information package for the conference will be distributed at the registration desk. Participants who arrive late can register anytime during conference. Please note that your registration fee includes a program, abstracts, handouts, lunches, transportation expenses, museum admission during the conference(oct. 22~24), and dinners for welcome reception(oct. 21) and gala dinner(oct. 24).

9 Travel Information Passport and Visa A valid passport is required for all visitors entering the Republic of Korea. Most participants, except from those countries who have visa exemption agreements with the Republic of Korea should get their visas before entering the Republic of Korea. For detailed information, please consult the local Korean consulates or travel agencies. Languages While the official language of the conference is English, Korean is spoken in Korea. Even though there may be difficulties in communicating during the conference, English service will be available at the venue to assist the participants in need. Currency and Credit Cards Korea s official monetary unit is the Won(KRW 1,050 = USD 1, Sep. 2014). By using a Korean currency or a credit card during your stay in Korea, you will avoid currency exchange problems. Foreign bank notes and traveler s check can be exchanged into Korean Won at the airport, all banks and some hotels. Credit Cards, e.g. VISA and Master are all widely accepted. Weather October in Korea falls in the most beautiful season with maples. The weather is a little cool with a huge daily temperature range(average monthly temperature of October: 18 ). The interior of the buildings, including the conference hall, hotels, subways and taxis are mostly air-conditioned.

10 Travel Information Health Insurance and Emergency Korea s national health insurance system does not cover non-residents of Korea. We suggest that you purchase your own health or traveler s insurance. The Organizing Committee will not be responsible for medical expenses, accidents, losses or other unexpected occurrences. Participants are advised to arrange their own insurance if they consider it necessary. Business Hours Public offices are generally open from 9:00 to 18:00, and banks are open from 9:00 to 16:00 on weekdays. Electricity The electricity supply is 220V in Korea. Tour and Shopping Information in Seoul and Korea Seoul is the largest city in Korea and its population is about 10 millions. Even before you arrive in Seoul, you may find many publications on Seoul tour. Please visit the website for the tour information.

12 Organizing Committee Board Mobility Requirements Please note that the field trip will involve physical activities such as boarding buses and walking in the field etc. We apologize that the trip cannot accommodate special mobility requirements. Disclaimer The Organizing Committee will accept no liability for personal injuries sustained by or for loss or damage to property belonging to the conference participants and their guests either during or as a result of the conference. Organizing Committee Office during Conference During the conference, the organizing committee office will be located in the International Conference Hall of the National Library of Korea. We encourage participants to drop by the office on a daily basis to check the participant board.
