1 HERB BORO, MD Infectious Disease Dr. Boro represents all a physician should strive to be. His medical knowledge and skills are of the highest caliber, and his work, practice, and life ethics are second to none. He is highly respected for his contributions to patient care at the facility, where he serves as both Chief of Infectious Disease and Chief of Quality, and to the entire medical community. In addition to his administrative duties, he maintains an active practice in Infectious Disease Medicine through the Street Clinic/Infusion Center and the hospital. He also finds time to participate in the -Madera Medical Society, the American College of Physicians, the American Society for Microbiology, and the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

2 BRIAN FRIESEN, MD Surgery Dr. Friesen consistently wins high praise for his superb surgical skills and for the support and comfort he provides at a time when his patients, many with cancer, are most in need of information and reassurance. In a practice that can be busy and strenuous, he is unfailingly upbeat and optimistic. His teammates appreciate his willingness to work hard and pitch in whenever his help is needed. He has also capably served for many years as the physician representative on the Capital Equipment Committee. Away from the operating room, you can find him on the water, indulging his lifelong love for fishing.

3 JOHN GASMAN, MD Pulmonology Dr. Gasman always goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to patient care. He has earned the respect of his colleagues for his interest in medical ethics and his dedication to communicating with his patients and their families about the medical decisions that are so critical to their lives. After joining TPMG in 2002, he became an integral part of the Hospital Based Specialists Department. He has also developed a more traditional pulmonary and critical care practice. He divides his time between intensive care in the hospital and the office. A proponent of using technology to improve the practice of medicine, he helped introduce KP HealthConnect, our powerful new electronic health records system, in the Medical Records department.

4 DEE LACY, MD Infectious Disease Highly regarded for her consummate communication skills, Dr. Lacy manages a very busy practice providing Adult Infectious Disease care, including HIV services, in the clinic, the Infusion Center and the hospital. Passionate about serving patients well, she has been one of the champions of Personalization of Care. Under her leadership, the Continuing Medical Education Committee developed a program that earned high praise not only from her colleagues but also from the community. She has recently accepted a new role as Chief of Medical Legal for the facility.

5 ROBERT LONJERS, MD Internal Medicine A busy member of the Internal Medicine program at, Dr. Lonjers forms long-term bonds with his patients, whom he encourages to make wise choices about their activities, nutrition and medical care. To improve access to health information and ease the way for his patients to reach him online, he worked diligently to prepare the facility for KP HealthConnect, our powerful new electronic health records system, and continues to help his colleagues stay well informed about using this valuable tool. An active volunteer, he serves the community through his church and the Boy Scouts.

6 PAUL WILLIAMS, MD Internal Medicine Dr. Williams interest in infectious disease led him to establish a research project in San Jose working on valley fever meningitis. His ongoing research, with colleagues from Stanford, UC Davis, Valley Children s Hospital, and Berne, Switzerland, has been very successful in furthering our knowledge of this disease. His latest publication addresses cocci meningitis. Always ready to help other colleagues, he makes his home in the Adult Primary Care Department, but jumps in when needed to cover in the Infectious Disease Department. As Chair of the Wellness Committee, he actively promotes healthy life style decisions for his patients and colleagues, and has provided outstanding programs to help everyone thrive.
