Review the state-wide survey results from RCP s and Managers regarding support for increasing educational standards in the future. 2. Cite 2 reasons to increase the educational standards for Respiratory Care practitioners. 3. Update recent developments in Respiratory Therapy education in North Carolina and the rest of the US.

6 Background: Why Increase RC Educational Standards? 1. To increase the depth and breadth of knowledge to meet the needs of our patients under evolving paradigms of care. 2. To qualify for reimbursement under proposed changes to Medicare part B program, RT must hold Bachelor s degree. 3. To prepare Respiratory Therapist for advanced roles in clinical practice, management, education and research.

8 NC Survey for Future Increase in Educational Standards In January 2013, the NC Respiratory Care Board conducted a voluntary, anonymous survey of all Licensed Practitioners to determine support for increasing the future educational standards for RCP s. A total of 926 (n = 926) licensed RCP s completed the survey, for a 22% response rate (926/4300 =.22)
