8 HEALTH AND MEDICAL SUPPORT A volunteer staff of Registered Nurses and medical personnel are on Ranch property around the clock to provide emergency medical care, first aid, medication administration, and to ensure the general health and well-being for all ranchers. Please review the Rancher Health Handbook found on pages of this Parent Handbook. There are important documents requiring signatures from both the parent and the Rancher s physician before the Rancher can receive medication at Solid Rock Ranch. FOOD ALLERGIES If your child has a specific food allergy, you will be able to indicate the allergy when you register. We will then notify the Ranch kitchen staff and your child s team leader to ensure your child receives the appropriate meal plan during Ranch. HOMESICKNESS While kids typically find Ranch to be a very fun and exciting experience, at times they may begin to miss their family. Please don t encourage kids to call you if they are unhappy. Instead, encourage them to go to Ranch, make friends and enjoy their experience. If they miss home, encourage them to talk and pray with their team leader. Remind your kids you want them to be there and have a good time. Discuss and help your child write a set of personal goals for their Ranch experience. Send a disposable camera to record your child s Ranch memories to share when they return home (please write their name on it). Have your child keep a journal of all the fun they are having and everything God is speaking to them about. We recognize that it is natural for a child to miss home. When a child feels homesick, we work with them individually, listening and talking about his/her feelings. If necessary, we notify parents and work with them to implement the best plan. In some instances parents may be asked to pick up a child. It is rare that a child leaves due to homesickness. MAINTAINING ORDER Typically we do not have a problem with our Ranchers. For the most part the children are very well-behaved during Ranch. However on the occasion that a child misbehaves, the Ranch staff will follow this policy: Ranchers possessing weapons, alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will be dismissed from Ranch immediately without a refund. Ranchers who are exceedingly disruptive, destructive or a danger to themselves or others will be dismissed without a refund. Ranchers who have trouble following rules and/or listening to directions may be required to sit out of certain activities as correction for their behavior. If the Rancher does not change their behavior after a maximum of three warnings, the parent or legal guardian of the Rancher will be called and the child will be sent home from Ranch. 6

9 FAMILY NIGHT CHANGES ALL GRADES Kinder Camp, Day Ranchers and High School will attend ranch 7/23/18 7/27/18. Family night will be held on Friday, July 27 th when you pick up your children. Pre-teen and Middle School will attend ranch the week of 7/30/18 8/3/18. Family night will be held on Friday, August 3 rd when you pick up your children. BUT--- Don t forget though come back and have dinner with us, celebrate, worship and witness water baptisms in the river! WATER BAPTISM We will be teaching about & offering water baptism as part of our overnight Ranch programs. We recognize this is a personal decision for families, so parents are encouraged to talk with their children prior to Ranch about baptism. Kids will have an opportunity to pray with their counselors and express the desire to be baptized. If your child is planning on being baptized, we would love to have you participate in this special moment! Water Baptisms will be take place at 7pm during Family Night. 10 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. How can I be a part of my child s Ranch experience? A. There are a couple ways that you, as a parent, can be a part of your child s Ranch experience. You can apply to be a counselor for Overnight Ranch or a team leader for Day Ranch. You can also volunteer to help with operations, such as helping in the kitchen, doing security or helping as a ranch hand or with activities. Also, write your kid(s) a letter to read while they are away. Don t forget to pray for your child s experience and the friend they will meet! Q. Who will be caring for my child while at Ranch? A. During Ranch, your child will be under the guidance of a minimum of two screened and trained volunteers who will be with the ranchers at all times, 24 hours per day. Competent medical help is always available to ensure the health and safety of each rancher, and trained lifeguards will be on duty during river times. Trained security teams are on duty at all times, and all volunteers have been CPR /first aid trained. Q. Do you supply pain reliever or other over-the-counter medication if needed? A. Yes. In order for us to provide campers with a pain reliever or other needed over-thecounter medication, the parent/legal guardian must authorize the Ranch Medic to do so one of two ways. The first is when you are completing the registration form online you choose to give Tylenol or not, and the other option is to sign the form provided in this Parent Handbook. Q. Can I visit my child while they are at Solid Rock Ranch? A. Yes, however, we encourage parents to reserve their visit for Family Night. Any guests on the property will be required to check in at our security station to receive a guest badge. All visitation requests must be approved by the SRR Director prior to your arrival. All visitors must leave the premises by dusk. Q. What if I need Financial Assistance? A. Financial Aid Applications are available online and booths will be available in the foyer at CCC during May through June to answer any questions you may have. Financial Aid requests will close June 24, 2018 and will not be accepted after that date! The two requirements this year is that parents much be willing to pay a portion of the fees and be willing to volunteer during fundraising events in the coming months. Q. How do I sponsor a child? A. You can sponsor a child by giving online (go2ccc.org), donating at the Solid Rock Ranch booth in the lobby, or by dropping your donation in the offering bucket! EMERGENCY CONTACT If there is an emergency and you need to reach your child, please call the Solid Rock Ranch phone at ROCK (7625) or the Capital Christian offices at
