MIRAMICHI NEW BRUNSWICK The Miramichi Regional Health Authority is dedicated to providing quality client-centered care to the people of the community. The service area has a population of approximately 46,000 and includes the villages of Baie-Sainte-Anne Blackville, Néguac, Rogersville, and the City of Miramichi, and surrounding areas. The health authority operates New Brunswick s newest state-of-the-art, 183 bed, acute care Miramichi Regional Hospital as well as four health centres, the Miramichi medical Day Clinic and the Extra Mural Program, a unique community-based program. The Miramichi area is known for its beautiful landscapes, interesting coves, salt water beaches and wooded areas that create a backdrop for hiking, biking and cross-country ski and snowmobile trails. This area provides care through a network of on regional hospital and five health centres. 29 Residents have the opportunity to train in Rural Family Medicine in Miramichi.

33 WATERVILLE Upper River Valley Hospital (URVH) was built five years ago to replace the Woodstock and Bath facilities. The hospital acquired a medical education office in June Since that time, URVH has had residents in the obstetrical and emergency departments. Students have had the opportunity to work for short periods with our endocrinologist, anesthesiologists, general surgeon and a few family physicians. A car is highly recommended when working here. Upper River Valley Hospital is located in Waterville, New Brunswick. This situates the hospital in the center of several towns. Hartland is less than a five minute drive from the hospital and the larger town, Woodstock, is a 10-minute drive. It is also where most of the hospital staff live. Woodstock has grocery stores, department stores, a large civic center, several hiking trails and some cultural activities. Fredericton is a one hour drive from the hospital. Fredericton is a nice weekend destination because it houses many restaurants, two universities, plenty of shopping, a museum, art gallery, Theater New Brunswick, a science center, a very popular Saturday market and lots of shopping. Many people also like to shop at Marden s in Houlten, Maine (a 20-minute drive away) and in Bangor, Maine, at the factory outlet box stores (less than a three hour drive from Woodstock). SAINT JOHN The Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick. It is the primary healthcare referral centre for the Saint John area. Residents training experiences in Saint John include pediatrics, orthopedics, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. The Saint John area offers an abundance of outdoor activities, numerous restaurants, and many shopping boutiques. NEW BRUNSWICK 30
