7 February 8 12:30 2:15 p.m. Go BOLD with Teamwork and Innovation Chemistry, Trust and Risk Taking. It s hard to explain, but we ll try. Here s what happens when a team has great chemistry. When we have chemistry in our team, we have fun. When we have fun with our co-workers we communicate better and connect on a deeper level. And when we connect, we create trust. When we have trust, we feel bold to take greater risks knowing that our team is behind us. And when we take greater risks, innovation can happen. And innovation is a very good thing. So let s figure this out. Innovation isn t a spontaneous occurrence. For our organizations to innovate, we must foster individual creativity and initiative and learn to manage risk well. And that can only happen through General Session THURSDAY the prerequisite communication and teamwork. See how it all connects? But that s not all we re going to have some fun in the process! Joel s interactive presentation is like none other you ve attended unless of course you were here when he had us doubling over in laughter. He s back for a return engagement to demonstrate how teams that have fun together are more likely to communicate better, create ideas together, solve problems together and build great success together. And ultimately, take more risks and be innovative. Because innovation changes lives. And that s a very good thing. The most popular and humorous Institute keynote speaker in history returns to St. Paul! Joel Zeff is a dynamic speaker, improvisational humorist and author. His interactive performances invite members of the audience to participate in hilarious improvisational exercises that illustrate Joel s central message: That organizations and individuals should CELEBRATE every day successes to increase collaboration, productivity, passion and innovation. Mr. Zeff will host a book selling and signing in the LeadingAge Minnesota Showcase Lounge following his keynote presentation. ww.joelzeff.com Joel Zeff Visit to register 7

Session #410, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 4:15-5:15 p.m. Embedded Music Program Walker Methodist Health Center, Minneapolis Walker Methodist has taken the application of music therapy to a higher level. Embedding music into nearly every aspect of resident care and daily life, the quantifiable results have been remarkable. The program of personalized music has helped over 400 residents reconnect with their memories and become more engaged and interactive. Music is used to manage pain and anxiety without medication and as an intervention for behavior and anxiety to make daily life and personal cares more comfortable and enjoyable for residents. It has reduced the time needed to provide cares including one resident who was anxious and uncooperative during showers now enjoying her musical showers. Other applications include drumming circle classes, Dancing with Parkinson s classes and resident talent shows. Session #212, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1:45-2:45 p.m. Memory Care Art Program Walker Methodist Highview Hills, Lakeville Walker Methodist Highview Hills put a new twist on the popular Memory Care Art Program. With deliberate intention, the program integrated new art forms based upon the work of world-renowned artists. Residents recreated the work of the artists, one step at a time in short time increments using a wide variety of artistic techniques. Residents began expressing themselves in new ways, gained an awareness of their own creativity and abilities, and for some, found new purpose in their lives. The works were exhibited at a Spring Arts Show for the community to experience beautiful artwork that was comparable to work accomplished by other artists without dementia.
