Salinger, MD (1.00 A Credit) This course will discuss an array of the many types of corneal and external disease case presentations encountered in an ophthalmology practice. The relevant patient history and the details of the ocular examination will be reviewed. The differential diagnosis and the approach to treatment will also be presented. 9:00-10:00 a.m. RETINAL MAPPING Marcela Hickey and Ditte Hess, CRA (1.00 A Credit) This course will cover what technicians and ophthalmic photographers need to know about the principles of mapping the eyes with retinal diseases. Tips and techniques in obtaining images with different software will also be shown. 10:00-10:15 a.m. BREAK 10:15-11:15 a.m. EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ORBITAL CELLULITIS Thomas Johnson, MD (1.00 A Credit) This course will review how to assist and confidently manage patients with orbital cellulitis. Orbital cellulitis is a condition that may be associated with vision-and life-threatening complications. Despite numerous medical advances in anti-microbial therapy, radiographic imaging, and surgical technique, the treatment of orbital cellulitis remains challenging. Successful management requires prompt diagnosis, aggressive medical therapy, and in some cases, timely surgical intervention. 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. BASIC SPANISH FOR THE OPHTHALMIC PRACTIONER Miguel Risco, MD (1.00 A Credit) This course will review important words and phrases in the Spanish language relevant to ophthalmic health care personnel. The correct usage and pronunciation of common phrases, questions, and commands will be reviewed, and focus will be placed on navigating triage and the ocular examination. Regional dialects and cultural differences will also be discussed. 12:15-1:15 p.m. LUNCH (GOLD ROOM) (Meeting attendees only; no guests or children please.) 1:15-2:15 p.m. INTRODUCTION TO EYE BANKING Concetta Triglia (1.00 B Credit) This course will cover an overview of eye banking, the role of the eye bank technician in the recovery, processing, and evaluation of ocular tissue, and the role of the Eye Bank Association of America. 2:15-3:15 p.m. INS & OUTS, UPS & DOWNS OF GRAVES' OPHTHALMOPATHY David Kostick, MD (1.00 A Credit) This lecture will review the ophthalmic manifestations of Graves disease as well as the evaluation and management options including surgical reconstruction. 3:15-3:30 p.m. BREAK 3:30-4:30 p.m. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU (DON T BE SCARED OF THAT COMPUTER) Denise Whitaker, COT (1.00 B Credit) This course will cover basic computer issues in Electronic Health Records (EHRs), general office, and backups. One of less than ten dedicated ophthalmic pathology laboratories in the United States, the Florida Lions Ocular Pathology Laboratory is a comprehensive source of tissue evaluation and ocular disease research. Over 4000 surgical specimens are processed each year, including over 300 globes, with a wide variety of conjunctival, corneal, orbital, lid and intraocular lesions. 10:00-10:15 a.m. BREAK (EXHIBIT HALL PONCE DE LEON BALLROOM 4, 5, 6) 10:15-11:15 a.m. GLAUCOMA: BACK TO THE FUTURE Robert Mandelkorn, MD (1.00 A Credit) This course will include the basic concepts needed for the diagnosis of glaucoma, supplemented with a review of new technology including intraocular pressure measurement, Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT), GDx, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), and visual field analysis. 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. HEADACHES CAUSES AND MANAGEMENT Byron Lam, MD (1.00 A Credit) Headache is a symptom often encountered in ophthalmology. This course will review common and critical headache syndromes. Important components of obtaining history from patients with headaches and proper medical management of headaches will be discussed. Case examples will be provided to illustrate important clinical points. 12:15-1:15 p.m. LUNCH (Meeting attendees only; no guests or children please.) 1:15-2:15 p.m. AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION: PROGRESSION, PREDICTION, AND SCREENING (1.00 A Credit) John Niffenegger, MD A practical discussion of clinical risk factors for AMD (age related macular degeneration) progression will be presented and followed by an exploration of the utility of genetic testing and home-vision monitoring. 2:15-3:15 p.m. NAVIGATING THE MAZE OF OCULAR MOTILITY PROBLEMS Gary Schemmer, MD (1.00 A Credit) This course will help the individual recognize common ocular motility disorders and discuss the most appropriate treatment for them. A review of anatomy and neurology related to the subject will aid the clinician in recognizing and understanding these disorders. Terminology related to strabismus and methods of correct documentation of them will be reviewed. Logical history taking and examination techniques will be taught. The more common motility disorders and the treatment for them will be discussed; as well as those conditions that represent more serious problems. 3:15-3:30 p.m. BREAK 3:30-4:30 p.m. EYE KNOW! SKILL ENHANCEMENT FOR THE EYE CARE PROFESSIONAL Michelle P. Herrin, COMT, CO (1.00 A Credit) This dynamic program will feature audience interaction while reinforcing and building knowledge of ophthalmic medical professionals. A link to course handouts will be ed to registrants one week prior to the meeting date. Handouts will be available for two weeks following the meeting date. CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS All cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by JCAHPO in writing no later than June 10, No refunds are granted after that date, regardless of the reason, unless JCAHPO cancels the conference. A processing fee of $75 is deducted from each cancelled registration to cover a portion of the costs JCAHPO incurs. If your registration total is less than $75, no refunds are made. ATPO Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable. CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS This program has been awarded 12 Group A and 2 Group B JCAHPO continuing education credits. Continue over the Intracoastal Waterway (drawbridge) to Palm Beach. After crossing the drawbridge continue to the second traffic light, South County Road (A1A). At South County Road turn left and continue ½ mile to the third traffic light. The Breakers is on the right side at One South County Road. From the Florida Turnpike - Take the exit at mile marker #99, Okeechobee Boulevard. Exit from the toll booth to the left going east on Okeechobee, continue approximately six miles. Okeechobee will end at Flagler Drive, from the center lane turn left onto Flagler Drive and veer immediately right onto the drawbridge. Continue over the Intracoastal Waterway (drawbridge) to Palm Beach. After crossing the drawbridge continue to the second traffic light, South County Road (A1A).
