Aspects include values and cultural differences. 10:15 AM to 10:30 AM Health Break 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon The Health of Francophones in Ontario Speaker : Dr. Marie-Hélène Chomienne, Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa, Montfort Hospital Dr. Chomienne will present the findings of a study on the health of Francophones living in minority language communities. This workshop will explore various ways of encouraging the Francophone community to get them involved in French health services, as well as the roles and responsibilities of each individual community member. Workshop 1B Youth Engagement Speaker: To be confirmed The youth of today may be the health and social service professionals of tomorrow. How can we encourage our young people to offer health services in French? How should we go about making them aware that this is crucial to the delivery of high-quality health services? Workshop 1C Health Literacy Margareth Zanchetta, Assistant Professor, Ryerson University Communication is a key to the delivery of safe health services. In this workshop, Professor Zanchetta will lead practical exercises that will enable participants to identify attitudes in individuals who have a limited ability to access, interpret, communicate, and act, using information for making better decisions for their health. Workshop 1D Obesity in Children Christine Lyszczarz, Heart and Stroke Foundation The percentage of Canadian children who are overweight or obese has reached an alarming 28%. This increases their risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke well before the age at which Canadians generally develop these health problems. Research has shown that this risk is high for Canadians of African heritage. How does this situation apply specifically to Francophone communities? What solutions can we explore?
