2 The Royal College of suggests recommended staffing levels for a safe Department in a key paper from For a Department with the activity of Daisy Hill ED at least 10 consultants are required with a minimum of 6 middle grades. Daisy Hill Department has currently wte substantive Consultant posts in situ. There are currently 2 wte substantive middle grade doctors. The multiple attempts at recruitment, totalling c 140k, over this time period for both consultant and middle grade doctors are outlined in this paper, almost all of which have been unsuccessful. The Trust has used extensive advertising techniques both digital on line and in print but to no avail. 4
5 Uniquely in Northern Ireland the Trust secured permission from DOH in December 2016 to offer an enhanced package for the Daisy Hill post but unfortunately this did not generate any. This was confirmed as 10% recruitment premium payable to the successful candidate. The Southern HSC Trust working with a coordinated regional project implemented an international recruitment campaign both in Eastern Europe and Asia. The Trust has potentially secured 3 speciality doctors from this process with commencement dates within the next 6 months but unfortunately no consultants. Separate to this, the Trust, in 2015, carried out its own recruitment initiative via a specialist European recruitment agency, which resulted in two middle grade doctors for interview, with only one deemed seemed with an anticipated start date in May
