BOMA/Chicago Follows International Guidelines Read Entry Requirement Descriptions Carefully Historically, SF Categories Have Most Entries Make it a Management Team Decision Important Dates Application Portal Open: Monday, July 9 to Friday, September 20 (closes at 5PM CST sharp) Onsite Judging: October 2018 (details of inspections will be announced on July 9 the local TOBY application launch) Local Winners Announced: Late January 2019 at the TOBY/Gold Circle Awards Gala North Central Region Applications: Due Mid-March 2019 North Central Region Winners Announced: Mid-April 2019 International TOBY Gala: Salt Lake City UT, June,

4 Local TOBY: Step 1 Prepare and write application Submit on TOBY portal Entry Requirements Use BOMA International s On-line portal Follow International Entry Requirements document guidelines exactly $350 Local Fee Applies 4

5 Entry Requirements At least one year from date of occupancy of the first tenant by June 15, 2017 with a minimum of 12 months of building operations. All categories must be at least 50% occupied. Emergency Preparedness: Pdf s of 1) AED Policy, 2) Security Procedures TOC;3) ADA Plan; 4) Access control & surveillance systems Earth Award: Description of Community Impact + 3 pdf s. Entry Requirements Recent Additions Tenant Relations: Copy of Tenant Survey Environmental: (5 attachments) + describe Waste Management Plan Recycling Policies Environmental/Regulatory Sustainability each worth 5 points 15 points total 5

6 Best Practices for Local Application LOCAL APPLICATION Create in Word and copy into application Be Aware of the specific word counts which apply and may be different for each category Upload attachments as directed Chronicle outcomes Write in active voice Active versus Passive Voice Passive: The building was prepared for TOBY by the management staff. Active: The management staff prepared the building for TOBY. Word Conscious: Staff Prepared building for TOBY. 6

9 Local TOBY: Step 2 On-Site Inspections! In October/November, 3 or 4 judges will come to inspect your building. Your building is evaluated based upon the inspection sheets that BOMA/Chicago will send to you. Review these forms before your inspection. Inspection Forms Prepare your on-site inspection to touch upon all aspects the inspection forms. Practice your inspection with your team! 9
