5 The Urban Park Executive Leadership Program is a five-day, in-person leadership development program for professionals working in the field of urban park management. Developed in partnership by the Central Park Conservancy and the City University of New York School of Professional Studies, the program provides participants with skills and information that enhance their ability to successfully manage an urban park as part of a public-private park partnership.
6 Program Overview: Five-Day Program, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Participants must be able to commit to the full five days Four days in the classroom; One day in-park practicum Case-based approach Optional evening activities with senior leaders from the Central Park Conservancy and special outside speakers Each cohort will be capped at 20 to ensure: o A high level of interactivity o Plenty of opportunity for peer-to-peer exchange The Fall Leadership Program will be held at the Institute from October 15 19, 2018.
7 Logistics & Timetable: Location: New York City at the Institute for Urban Parks Dates: Monday, October 15 Friday, October 19, 2018 Cost: $2,250 per person Economic hardship grants are available Application: o Open now o Closes August 6, 2018 Notifications of admission will be sent by August 20, 2018.
8 Participants who complete the program will be able to: Demonstrate familiarity with fundamental concepts related to urban parks and the public-private partnerships supporting them Describe the common issues facing urban parks, and their implications Describe the major activities required to manage an urban park Describe the major responsibilities of the private partner in a public-private park partnership Within the framework of a case situation, perform selected tasks central to the leadership of a public-private park partnership Apply principles learned during the program to address issues from the participants own organizations.
9 To achieve these learner outcomes, participants will: Role-play and work in groups to problem solve real-life issues facing parks using three customized case-studies Learn about building public/private partner relationships, responsibilities, and executing or refining agreements Learn about different funding models, including philanthropy, earned income and revenue diversification Learn the fundamentals of corporate governance best practices Engage in activities that highlight the role of communications Learn to identify and address issues facing diverse departments And learn directly from Central Park Conservancy experts about the operating models and techniques utilized in our successful management of Central Park.
10 Applicants should be executives and mid-level or senior managers who are: Affiliated with a newly formed (less than 5 years) private (i.e. nonprofit) partner of an urban public-private park partnership New to a position with an established private partner of an urban public-private park partnership Affiliated with the public partner of an existing or future urban public-private park partnership Trustees of existing public-private park partnerships, friends or volunteer groups, and/or administrators, or senior-level staff members at public agencies interested in learning about the public-private partnership model.
11 About the Application Must submit completed application by the deadline Monday, August 6th Include required documents o Personal statement of intent o Form 990 for your organization or an annual report for agencies o Resume or CV o Letter of Recommendation
