1 PEER MENTOR PROGRAM INTERN & MENTOR APPLICATION The mission of the Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is to support the experience of students from underrepresented communities at Reed, and to ease the first year transition to college. The program strives to create spaces, through programs and other educational opportunities, for students from diverse backgrounds to engage in conversations about the educational experience at Reed. Through pairing incoming students with current Reedies, this program presents an additional opportunity for students to become familiar with the resources on campus that are available, and which reinforce a positive academic and social environment. Interns and Mentors are key to the success of this program. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We will be hiring 2 Interns and 18 Mentors for This application will allow you to indicate interest in the Intern position, Mentor position, or both. Please refer to the Intern and Mentor job descriptions for details about the distinct responsibilities and qualifications for each position. Interns and Mentors are students from a cross section of the campus, who have devised strategies to navigate the social and academic atmosphere of Reed, and are willing to share their insights. Interns and Mentors do not have to be perfect by any means; we encourage those who have experienced struggles at Reed and have learned or are learning from them to consider applying. Interns and Mentors are supervised by the Director of the Office for Inclusive Community, and Mentors are further supported by the PMP Interns. Previous involvement with PMP is a requirement to apply for the Intern position, however, it is not a prerequisite for the Mentor position. Interns will be awarded a $2,283 stipend, paid in 5 installments. Mentors will be awarded a $300 stipend at the end of each semester, contingent on the mentor s maintaining of mentor responsibilities. Each mentor will be matched with 2 4 mentees. IMPORTANT DATES: March 8 Application due by 12pm to mattoled@reed.edu or the PMP Mailbox in Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) March 9 18 Interviews take place in MRC (sign up for interviews here ) April 1 Notifications sent via April 5 PMP Mentor Welcome (5:00 6:30pm, Eliot 103) Week of April 11 Intern Welcome & Training (exact time & location TBD) August 15 Intern Training (9am 6pm) August 17 Mentors approved to move into on campus housing August 18 Mentor Training (9am 6pm) August PMP Odyssey (additional details will be shared over the summer) August 25 Inclusive Community Orientation Sessions (9:00 10:30am, 1:00 2:30pm; PMP interns and mentors expected to assist; additional details will be shared over the summer) APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Your written application must include each of the following items; incomplete applications may not be considered: Completed application form (enclosed in this document) Resume highlighting previous employment and/or involvement experience 2 completed recommendation forms (enclosed in this document) Written answers to brief essay questions (enclosed in this document) Signed Authorization to Release Information from the Dean of Students Office (enclosed in this document) Sign up for an interview time on the Doodle poll: Return completed application materials to Dayspring Mattole via at mattoled@reed.edu or the PMP Mailbox in the Student Center by 12:00 PM on Monday, March 7. 5 As a condition of employment, all finalists for the Peer Mentor Program Intern and Mentor positions are requested to sign a release of information form authorizing the Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students to share relevant educational record information to those responsible for the final hiring decision in the Office for Inclusive Community. By signing this Authorization to Release Information form, you are authorizing the Office for Inclusive Community to request relevant information from the sources listed below: Alcohol and Other Drug process, including in some cases the AOD Review Panel Medical Amnesty information will not be released as part of this request Judicial Board Sexual Misconduct Board Temporary Hearing Board Title IX reports Administration Committee Only major academic misconduct cases that were reviewed by this board will be released. Minor academic misconduct case information will not be released. Please note : If you have been found responsible for violations of Reed College policy and/or the Honor Principle, the letter explaining the resulting sanctions may include an indication that the outcome of the case will not be released as part of your educational record. This generally applies only to requests for information originating outside the college, not requests for information from within the college, which is shared on a need to know basis, such as to confirm eligibility for student employment.
