The Seoul Capital Area, which includes the surrounding Incheon metropolis and Gyeonggi province, is the world s second largest metropolitan area with over 25.6 million people and home to over half of Republic of Koreans along with 632,000 international residents. Seoul has been the capital of Korea for more than 600 years, since the Joseon Dynasty ( ). Seoul has developed into a bustling metropolis, acting as the hub for political, economical, social and cultural matters. The Han River, which runs through the centre of the city, divides Seoul into the culture and history-orientated northern region, and the business-orientated southern region. The Seoul metropolitan area contains four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Changdeok Palace, Hwaseong Fortress, Jongmyo Shrine and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. Today, Seoul is one of the leading and rising global cities in the world. 4

6 WELCOME ADDRESS Globalization has broken down the traditional boundaries separating individuals and societies, and technological innovation such as internet and smart phones have provided us with effectiveness, convenience and affluence. However, these processes are changing the nature of human interaction and clearly have both negative and positive results, and it is likely to create both losers and winners. According to a WHO report, the prevalence rate of mental disorders such as depression, anxiety and drug abuse has been rapidly increasing both in developed and developing countries. CINP is the only International College of Neuropsychopharmacology that has been contributing to the development of pharmacotherapy for mental disorders for more than half a century. In the long history of the CINP, the memorable 30 th Congress will be held in Seoul, Korea, in July 3 rd 7 th, which is the third time in Asia following the 1990 Kyoto Congress and 2010 Hong Kong Congress. Seoul is the capital city of Republic of Korea with an official history of 600 years. Seoul has many temples and four major palaces such as the most famous Gyeongbokgung. The city offers many other cultural and artistic attractions including the Museum of Art, which features traditional porcelain, textile and jewellery exhibits. There are also old tombs and ancient remains such as the Seoul Fortress, located in the Jongno-gu, Jung-gu and Seongbuk-gu areas of the city. The Congress Venue, Convention & Exhibition Center (COEX) is located in the center of the city and easily accessible from Incheon airport which is convenient for air travellers coming from Europe and America as well as any point in Asia. 7 ABOUT CINP The International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP) is a truly worldwide organisation established over 50 years ago in Zurich, Switzerland. CINP hold meetings all over the world with the aim to promote research and education on a worldwide basis. These meetings mainly cover one of the four types below: - Thematic Meetings - Regional Meetings - Training/Educational Programmes - Biennial World Congress Any member of CINP is able to submit a proposal to the Executive Committee via the CINP Central Office should you wish to hold a Thematic or Regional Meeting in your area. The Executive Committee and Councillors of CINP are nominated by the membership and serve as an officer of the College for a minimum of 4 years. These individuals cover a wide range of disciplines within the field, from psychiatrists, psychopharmacologists, basic and clinical researchers to clinical psychologists. CINP also relies on its many subcommittees who undertake a variety of activities for the College. Membership of the College is available to any individual to apply for and we offer members the opportunity to become part of this knowledgeable group of scientists who work at an international level. The membership application is reviewed by a dedicated committee on a regular basis and applications can be made online. As a member of CINP you may have the opportunity to be invited to one of the smaller meetings or invited to participate in the running of the College by sitting on a subcommittee. The International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology (IJNP), with a steadily increasing impact factor, has become a sought after publication. Articles are received and peer-reviewed independently and published after a rigorous review process. 11 SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION Plenary Lectures The ISPC are tasked with selecting leaders in our field to present Plenary lectures at the CINP World Congress. These 45 minute lectures, highlighting cutting edge pre-clinical, clinical or translational research are presented by speakers recognised for their exceptional achievements in our field. Symposia Symposia of a 2 hour duration integrate the latest advances in basic, clinical and translational neuropsychopharmacology, biological psychiatry, drug development public policy issues relevant to mental health, mental illness and treatment across the lifespan. Educational and Scientific Workshops Educational and scientific workshops typically involve brief presentations from individual panel members, followed by the opportunity for lively and informative discussion. This format provides substantial audience participation and should be highly interactive. For the Seoul meeting we will also be offering educational and scientific workshops in several Asian languages. Focus Groups Specific events on thematic focuses that are designed to enable younger scientists or geographic representatives to use network and develop future ideas on how to improve neuropsychopharmacology. Clinical and Personal Perspectives Clinical Perspectives typically involve brief presentations from individual panel members from a clinical perspective, followed by the opportunity for lively and informative discussion. This format provides substantial audience participation in education and science and should be highly interactive. Free Communications Authors are invited to submit abstracts on their latest research findings, which will be reviewed and the best will be selected and allocated for free communications structured by topics. Poster Sessions These sessions offer an effective forum for the exchange of information and a means to communicate ideas, research and programmes. Poster authors will have the opportunity to present and discuss their results in these highly interactive sessions in various fields. Satellite Symposia Satellite symposia will be organised and presented by pharmaceutical companies in consultation with the International Scientific Programme Committee. Breakfast, lunch and evening symposia are scheduled for 60 or 90 minutes. 610

12 CALL FOR SYMPOSIA Submission of Symposia Proposals Symposia are chosen on a highly competitive basis by the International Scientific Programme Committee from proposals submitted online via the congress website Four speakers including the Chairperson should represent at least three different countries and four different institutions. It is recommended that two speakers are CINP members. Symposium proposals that include women or younger speakers are greatly encouraged. The Chairperson is required to submit a 500 word abstract which describes the symposium and the role of each speaker and a 100 word learning objective for the symposia. The Chair should also provide a recent reference for each speaker and confirmation in writing that they are willing to present during the 30 th CINP World Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology in Seoul under the conditions stipulated. For each speaker the title of their presentation should be listed in the proposal. An allowance for travel expenses, hotel and registration will be provided to accepted symposium speakers and the Chair. Chairpersons can submit no more than two symposia and speakers can agree to participate in no more than two proposals. All proposals will be reviewed by the International Scientific Programme Committee and notifications will be sent to all symposia submitters in July Submission for Workshops, Free Communications and Poster Abstracts The call for Workshops, free communications and poster abstracts will be included in the 3rd Announcement which will be published in July Submission will be made online via the congress website from July

13 TOPICS The CINP International Scientific Programme Committee welcomes the proposal of symposia that link the latest, and groundbreaking, preclinical developments with the clinical research on a given topic. Through the free and open exchange of ideas, CINP supports a strong focus on new approaches to the development and assessment of CNS pharmaceuticals by researchers working in both academia and industry. 14 CALL FOR SYMPOSIA Symposia Submission Checklist Please ensure that the symposium meets the criteria as stated and all required information is ready before a submission is made. Symposia proposals are to be in English, the official language of the 30 th CINP World Congress. Each symposium consists of 4 speakers. Speakers must represent 3 different countries and 4 different institutions. It is recommended that two speakers are CINP members. A 500 word abstract describing the symposium and role of each speaker is to be uploaded by the Chairperson. A 100 word learning objective of the symposium. For each speaker the following information will be required: A written commitment to lecture at the congress. At least one recent scientific reference. Full affiliation details and address.
