2 2007 Daegu Initiative Innovation Action Plan 1. IAPs (Innovation Action Plans) have been built or revised for Area E and F in Area E (Establishing an appropriate legal and regulatory structure) and Area F (Establishing a market consistent with economic environment) are selected for action plans, since they are related to one of the sub themes of the 2007 SME Ministerial Meeting, making it easy to start and grow a business. - There are eleven participating economies as of August 9, They are Australia, Canada, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. Last year, fourteen economies participated in IAP. - IAPs are uploaded and managed at the website of the ( and the status submitted by member economies is shown in the Annex A. 2. The first cycle of the Daegu Initiative will end in 2010 and then each participating member economies submit a Self-assessment Report on the progress. - The will launch a research project in 2008 on an assessment scheme in preparation for the 2010 self-assessment. - Based upon the research outcome, submitted IAPs will be advised to be more measurable for an effective self-assessment in The will also has a plan to hold a 2008 international conference on SME innovation to share experiences and raise capacity of member economies in Area A, E and F. 1. The holds the 2007 International Conference and 2007 APEC SME Innovation Leader Workshop and publishes the APEC SME Innovation Briefing as the venue for monitoring the Daegu Initiative and accelerating SME innovation in the region. 2 The 2007 International Conference on SME Innovation will be held on November 6 and 7 in 2007 in Korea with over one hundred participants from 15 member economies around the world. - The theme of the 2007 International Conference is Turning Technology into Business Value for SMEs. It is geared toward exchanging information of global trends and policies related to SME innovation, particularly to commercializing SME technologies. - During the round table meeting, APEC stakeholders including policy makers from developing economies will share their experiences and impediments against SME innovation, producing a statement for individual and joint efforts at the APEC level.
3 - Invited participants are fully supported and the conference is open to general audience when registered for free. 3. The 2007 APEC SME Innovation Leader Workshop will be held from November 6 to 15 in 2007 in Korea with around twenty policy makers from eleven APEC travel-eligible member economies. - The workshop is held as part of the APEC SME 01/2007A project and in conjunction with the 2007 International Conference. - Workshop participants will learn major SME innovation policies through theoretical and practical lessons and field trips. Each one will be handed out training materials containing ten subjects associated with SME innovation policies. - Workshop participants will actively present their own issues regarding SME innovation in their economies and create future plans during the workshop. - Workshop participants are selected on a first-come, first-served basis from the candidates recommended by the eleven APEC travel-eligible member economies (Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Peru, Russia, Thailand and Viet Nam). They will be fully supported by the APEC fund. 4. The APEC SME Innovation Briefing No. 4 will be published in December, Three editions have been published and web-mailed since copies in English and 200 copies in Korean were released for the No.3 edition. - Contributors to the No. 4 edition are now welcomed until the September 30. The topics can cover survey research, successful programs and practices, excellent organizations, paradigm shifts, or others related to SME innovation.
