Thank You! The CAL FIRE Mission The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection serves and safeguards the people and protects the property and resources of California. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is an emergency response and resource protection department. CAL FIRE protects lives, property and natural resources from fire; responds to emergencies of all types, and protects and preserves timberlands, wildlands, and urban forests. The department s varied programs work together using ongoing assessments of the condition of natural resources and challenges of an in-creasing population to plan protection strategies for California. Department personnel and equipment are a familiar sight throughout the state with responsibility for protecting over 31 million acres of California s privately owned wildlands, as well as provide some type of emergency service under cooperative agreement with 150, counties, cities & districts. 1 of 12

2 Crestline Connect Newsletter April 2017 Crestline Connect Crestline Connect provides a weekly forum for San Bernardino County Mountain Businesses, Organizations and Community Leaders to gather and exchange information and ideas about Community Events and Business and Organization Opportunities. These meetings are open to the public. Crestline Connect meets every Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30 am at the Bear House Restaurant located at Crest Forest Drive, Crestline, CA Breakfast is available to order for all attendees. Crestline Connect Newsletter is sponsored and published bi-monthly by Michael Beavers, CEO at Mountain Counseling and Training. Submissions for ads, announcement and/or event content are welcome from Crestline Connect Members and are currently published at no charge. All submissions should be photo ready and kept to a maximum of 1/4 page (3 5/8" x 4 1/2") in size. The publisher reserves right to edit any submission content. Deadline for submissions for May 2017 Newsletter is April 29, all ads / announcements / events to CrestlineConnect@mountaincounseling.org. From Mountain Counseling s CEO: Community service. Focusing on strengths. Not caring who gets the credit. These are principles that have driven MCT s success. MCT serves the community through counseling and training but one of the things that has impressed me recently is the degree to which we can be a catalyst for others serving the community (local and global) in selfless ways. Rotary likes to herald the importance of Service above self. One example of that principle (and a future Rotarian) is Madonna Witte. She and her husband Christopher saw a need in the community for increasing safety through enhanced security in the VOE area. They volunteered to provide the installation and design of a security system. Though largely unsung, this contribution will contribute directly to the safety of children and youth in our community. This is especially important in the context of recent reports of child abduction attempts in the mountain communities. Madonna has also contributed many hours of work to the design and production of this publication which will lead to both enhanced revenue for local business and enhanced contacts for local not-for-profits. Michael Beavers is the CEO for Mountain Counseling & Training, Inc., a local non-profit focused on strengths-based provision of mental health and training services. He is also a board member for the Inland Empire Community Collaborative (IECC) which is providing training and consulting support to emerging San Bernardino County not-forprofits. 2 of 12
