2 ABOUT THE LAW FEST Lex-Fiesta is the first ever National Level Law Fest of its kind, organized by the students of National Law College (NaLC), Nepal. The objective of this fest is to provide the students pursuing law, an experience filled with joyful learning which will eventually enhance their capabilities as legal scholars in the long run. The fest incorporates some entertaining events like cosplay, collage competitions that are related with legal field with the intent of fostering learning, fun and competitive exposure on a single platform. What makes Lex-Fiesta 2018 interesting is, it being a first, unique and one of its kind event in the national platform. As first timers we have done our best to make this law fest, innovative and fun and educational at the same time and we promise the same (and more!) for years to come. National Level Law Cosplay Competition Intra College Painting, Collage and Vocabulary Competition Talent Show PARTICIPATION: All Law Students pursuing their Bachelors and Masters in Law within Nepal are eligible to participate in the events. 1

3 REGISTRATION: Participants must register in accordance with the rules as provided by Organizing Committee of the Law Fest. There are no registration fees for participating in the Law Fest and the competitions. However, the costs incurred while utilizing services of various stalls/playing games (food, books etc.) must be borne by the attendees themselves. 4 SHORT STORY AND POETRY WRITING COMPETITION Laws finding Expression: National Level Short Story and Poem Writing Competition. Law finding Expression is a National Level Short Story Writing Competition and National Level Poetry Writing Competition for law students at Lex Fiesta (Law Fest) hosted by National Law College. Every law and each legal system has a significant role in shaping the society. Law creates stories and carves the pattern of life s event. It is well known that the history of every society largely depends on the types of law and legal system adopted by the respective community/society at large. Law is not confined to the court room hearing, or parliamentary discussion, not only in police station or finance department. It is everywhere. It is in marriage, in divorce too. It is in the pain of all the country wo/men abroad working to earn and live far from home, in the history of unification and conquest, in the silence of many raped and even of those convicted wrongly. Thus with this conviction we invite all the law students to be a part of this Lex fiesta with your beautiful stories and creativity. National Law College is set to organize National Level Short Story Writing Competition and National Level Poetry Writing Competition for law students on Baisakh 2075 on occasion of Law Day (क न न द वस) on 26th of Baisakh Law students from all the Law colleges across the country are invited to submit their short story for the competition. THEME The theme for the Short Story is open, however it must be related to Legal Arena. The theme for Poetry is Nationalism 3

5 DEADLINES The interested participants will have to submit their work by 22 nd of Baisakh Announcement of first three winners shall be made on the day of the event. (Note: The participants of Poetry Writing and Short story competitions will be judged separately. Winners of both categories Shall be awarded with medals and certificates) GUIDELINES AND RULES Open to all law students currently pursuing law studies in any of the Law University or College across the country. This includes 5 years and 3 years Bachelors and also Masters in law (LLM) both 2 years and 3 years. The language for submission of the story can be in both English and Nepali. The entries should be original and should not have been published before. Poems should not be longer than 2 pages and short stories should not exceed 5 pages. Prescribed Font is, Times New Roman-12 for English and Unicode- Mangal 11 for Nepali. (Paper Size- A4; 1.5 Line Spacing; Normal Margin) File name should be the participant s name and the subject should contain the title of the story/poem. Submissions should be sent to nepallawfest.poem.story@gmail.com. The must clearly state the participant s name, the name of institution they re affiliated to and the degree they re pursuing. The Subject of 4

6 must state the category (i.e. Poetry/Short Story) the work is being submitted under. Limit one submission per participant. In situation of any conflict or confusion, the decision of the organizing committee shall be final. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION Top 3 winners of both categories will be awarded on the day of the event at the closing ceremony. The best works submitted will be published in the NaLC E-journal and also showcased on the day of event. 5

7 COSPLAY COMPETITION 2075, LAW FEST Cosplay or costume play, is a hobby in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. Cosplay is an interaction event in which the cosplayer exhibits his/her knowledge of the culture he/she is representing. Any entity that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject and it is not unusual to see genders switched. Favorite sources include anime, cartoons, comic books, liveaction films, television series and video games. Cosplay is also a way of paying homage to different cultures around the world. NaLC is hosting a cosplay for its LAWFEST on 26th Baishak, 2075 which will require its participants to mirror great law related personalities like John Austin, Michelle Obama, Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, Sushila Karki, and similar people. Everyone who is willing is welcome to take part in this competition. RULES 1. Everyone attending the event are eligible to register. 2. Registration should be done via prior to the event and on the day of the event, registration should be done at the entrance. 3. Cosplay should represent a complete outfit i.e. apparel and accessories that is representative of a law related personalities. 4. The Contest focuses on craftsmanship and only costumes that are handcrafted or mostly handcrafted will be eligible ie. originality is stressed upon. 5. Costumes must be maneuverable enough to walk on the runway. 6

8 6. Cosplayers must provide a reference picture and be able to discuss the persona they re representing. 7. No nudity or graphic content. 8. The appearance should not be offensive to any individuals or communities. 9. The judgement will be solely based on the costume and presentation. The people securing first, second and third place respectively will be presented with certificates and medals. 9 LEX-FIESTA 2018 General Rules and Regulations. 1. Students pursuing their Bachelors and Masters Degree in law are encouraged to attend and participate. 2. There is no specified dress code. But attendees are encouraged to wear formals. Dressing modestly is a prerequisite for all attendees. 3. Attendees are encouraged to register online through the link provided in the description. 4. In case of clash of events, participants are requested to pre-inform the Registration Desk. 5. Organizers reserve the right to take appropriate action for any unethical, unprofessional or immoral conduct. 6. Attendees will have to bear the costs of their food/beverages while attending the event. None shall be provided by the hosting institution.
