Introduction The L Oreal For Women in Science National Fellowship recognizes the best fellows each year across Vietnam 3 fellows will be selected and will receive a grant of 150,000,000 dong 2 awards of 50,000,000 dong each will be given to the best woman scientists of the year Please submit your candidacy through the platform. from Monday 25 th of July to Saturday 10 th of September 2016 After the end of the submission period, the National Selection Committee will choose the 5 L Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Fellowship and Awards in 2016

3 2. Eligibility Criteria NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP a) Applicants must be Vietnamese and below the age of 45 on September 10th 2016, date of the end of the call for applications; b) Candidates must be starting or currently enrolled in research at the doctoral and post-doctoral level; c) Candidates must be pursuing research in the field of Life Sciences and Materials Sciences. NATIONAL AWARDS a) Applicants are Vietnamese woman scientists; b) Candidates must be starting or currently enrolled in research at the doctoral and post-doctoral level; c) Candidates have researched and contributed to the long-term development of sciences in Vietnam, expressed by the number of articles on international journals of their majors, the number of reports in international seminars, the number of doctoral students they have guided, etc.

Application Form and Supporting Documents Eligible applicants must provide, in Vietnamese and English: NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP NATIONAL AWARDS a) a duly completed application form (applications can only be submitted electronically through the online platform: b) proof of having obtained a Ph.D. degree; c) two signed letters of recommendation from two scientists in her field of research; d) a project summary in plain language; e) realistic budget estimates for the fellowship requested f) a list of publications, if any. a) a duly completed application form (applications can only be submitted electronically through the online platform: b) proof of having obtained a Ph.D. degree; c) two signed letters of recommendation from two scientists in her field of research; d) precise details of research undertaken/achievements in science

Conditions/Restrictions a) The funding can be used to purchase laboratory equipment, as well as for salary support, travel, conference attendance, etc. b) There are no restrictions to the number of other grants a successful applicant may hold. c) The seminar cost is not considered in the fellowship requested.

Selection of winners: a) Selection of successful applicants is made by a panel of the National Selection Committee, who is top Professors and Scientists of Vietnam. b) Deliberations will take place after the end of the submission period, at which time the jury board will review and discuss the best applicants for the National Fellowships and Awards. c) The results will be communicated by phone or to the winners at the end of the deliberation process. The announcement must remain confidential until the official ceremony in October.

Selection of winners: d) Evaluation criteria: NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP Academic performance; Research proposal: - describes the overall research plan, including methodology, and the significance, novelty and potential impact of the research; - is well-planned and demonstrates innovation, imagination and relevance; - promises to contribute to knowledge in the candidate s field of research and has the potential to promote science in her country and internationally; Quality and relevance of the reference letters. NATIONAL AWARDS Academic performance; Research summary is written in clear and plain language; Achievements in science contribute to the long-term development of sciences in Vietnam; Quality and relevance of the reference letters.

8 6. Responsibilities of grant recipients a) Pursue the research project in the year for which it is granted (FOR FELLOWSHIPS ONLY) b) Participate in the official ceremony and the various events (scheduled) in October 2016 c) Keep their announcement confidential until the official ceremony and not to contact the media. d) The winners agree to be photographed, filmed and interviewed for non-commercial objectives and For Women in Science program-related purposes. These photos, videos and texts will be used in publications and audiovisual media including but not limited to written press, television, internet, outdoor display, corporate publications, exhibitions, in Vietnam and worldwide. The image of the winners can be used for promotion of science among the younger generation, particularly young women. A separate written authorization will be signed by each of the winners. The winners will not receive any remuneration for such promotional activity. PAYMENT: The payment of the grant will be made by the L Oréal Foundation Vietnam directly to the winners after the official ceremony, and after having received the necessary original documents for the wire transfer of funds.

9 7. Provisional Timetable Opening of online platform : 25th July 2016 Applications closing date: 10th September 2016 Selection by the National Selection Committee: September 12th to September 30th 2016 Announcement of the winners: beginning October 2016 Official Ceremony: October 21th 2016
