2 Maldives Travel Awards Maldives Travel Awards - is the prize created to celebrate the commitment, Excellence and Expertise in the Maldivian Tourism Industry First launched in 2012, Maldives Travel Awards celebrates the 6th Anniversary in 2017, and we are proud to bring you the most prestigious, comprehensive and sought after recognition in the travel and tourism sector. The annual gala night for Maldives Travel Awards marks the premier night of excellence in the travel industry of Maldives, bringing together the largest club of travel professionals and executives for an evening of celebration. Maldives Travel Awards is a product of Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators, MATATO. Guesthouse Edition In a span of less than a decade, the guest house industry of Maldives has flourished as one of the fastest growing sectors in the country, in addition to bringing a wave of wealth to local communities. Maldives Travel Awards has been recognizing the success of this sector with exclusive categories, introduced every year. To cater the demand with emerging businesses in this sector, MATATO in 2017 is introducing, Maldives Travel Awards: the Guesthouse Edition, a special event to celebrate the outstanding performance in this sector. In addition to the current categories for guesthouses MATATO will be bring a total of 15 categories for this edition. Strategic Partner Maldives Travel Awards For Maldives Travel Awards 2017, MATATO is partnering with the world s largest travel website TripAdvisor. As the strategic partner for Maldives Travel Awards, Tripadvisor will be providing data and analytics based on reviews submitted by travelers who have visited Maldives during the year Review rating provided by Tripadvisor will be used to shortlist the nominees in each category representing tourist properties. TripAdvisor is the largest travel site in the world, with more than 315 million members and over 500 million reviews that attract over 300 million unique visitors each month. Data provided by TripAdvisor which is filtered through millions of opinions, gives us the most authentic review of a property purely based on the traveler s experience. The opportunity to have the access to this data, strengthens the judging at rating process for the Awards giving us the integrity as an Award that chosen by the Travelers. 01

3 How it Works STEP 01: NOMINATION ELIGIBILITY As a general criteria, to get nominated guesthouses and related travel businesses must be registered in Maldives with a service record of at least one (01) year in operation. Companies can compete their brands in more than one category. For certain categories, specific criteria needs to be met. Please refer to the category details to check the eligibility for nomination. HOW TO NOMINATE Nominations will be accepted from Travel Agents, Travel Organizations, and registered travel businesses in Maldives. Travel Businesses can also be self-nominated, in categories they fit to compete. Nominations for Guesthouse Island categories must be sponsored and submitted by the Island Council. Nominations for Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition are collected via and online platform, To nominate you can either us the stamped nomination form (select the relevent nominations form from page 8, 9, 10 and 11) to nominations@matato.org or use the website application tool to send us the application online. STEP 02: EVALUATION & SHORTLISTING At this stage nominations in each category will be evaluated, and shortlisted to five contenders in each category based on their review rating on TripAdvisor. Exclusive review ratings provided by TripAdvisor will be used for evaluation scoring and short-listing in categories specific to guesthouse properties. Top 05 rated properties (based on user reviews) will be shortlisted. STEP 03: POPULAR VOTE Shortlisted properties will then be announced and featured for popular vote. Votes are collected through SMS and through online voting portal on MATATO website and promoted on Travel Awards social media platforms. SMS and online votes will account for 60% of the total scoring. Votes will be collected for a period of one month prior to Award night. After online voting closes, winners will be selected based on their Tripadvisor rating (40%) combined with online and SMS votes (60%) Note: Winners in some categories are chosen by MATATO and some categories are scored based on popular vote alone. 8 Terms & Conditions Entrants must be either registered and/or providing travel services in Maldives. All entrants must have a service record of at least 12 months at the time of applying. Nominations can also be completed on the online nomination portal on Nomination applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Images and information that you send us will be used by us for any purpose, will not be subject to confidential treatment and may be disclosed by us without further consent from participants. Should there be any information changes on the side of the participating property, this should be ed to nominations@matato.mv in order to update the company profile. Important Dates Nomination Submission Dead Line: 10th September 2017 Online & SMS Voting 15th September to 05th October Whereas properties are nominated by a second party or MATATO, those properties will be informed and requested to submit a signed nomination form as their consent to participate in the Awards.
