2 POLO DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN In 2016, Polo Development began the Strategic Planning Process in each Department, building on the strategic changes completed during the Polo Development Strategic Plan Player Development Club Development Intercollegiate/Interscholastic
3 POLO DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN This was a multi-phase staff driven exercise conducted in conjunction with Board members & feedback from appropriate supporting committees Each department has diligently worked to implement changes to specific Programs based on the Strategic Plan Poloskilz and Player Performance Analysis [PPA] are two LLC wide initiatives all three departments are involved with and a large part of the overall Polo Development LLC Strategic Plan
4 POLO DEVELOPMENT FOCUSED EDUCATION Across all Departments, Polo Development is committed to education in: Equine Welfare Safety Horsemanship Player Performance Analysis Polo Development s connection to youth polo, through I/I & NYTS Tournaments, creates a platform to lead the sport of polo & impact future generations of polo players
5 PLAYER PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS & POLO SKILZ I/I Creation of PoloSkilz Drills videos, specifically designed for I/I Players and Coaches Implementation of Analytics at I/I endorsed Summer Camps Utilization of PoloSkilz for Coaches' & tournament manager training Fundraising platform & planning modules Player Development Development of Player Warm-Up Program based on Auburn Research PPA Focus at IMF specific to disseminating knowledge to Instructors Establish PPA as a focal part of training for Team USPA, YPO, NYTS, and Pop Up Clinics Cross Train Team USPA Members on PPA Process Polo Skilz & PPA Club Development Working with clubs and instructors to research development focused on the science of the swing and riding PPA process development and advanced technology audit and implementation Promotion of PPA and PoloSkilz for the Development of Clubs Cross training Certified Polo Instructors to implement cutting edge practices into their teaching
6 POLO DEVELOPMENT Equine Welfare, Safety, & Horsemanship Status Year-End 2016 Polo Development identified, through Strategic Planning, the impact the following components have on the sport of polo across all Polo Development Departments: Equine Welfare Safety Horsemanship Polo Development directly impacts youth players which allows the team to develop young players knowledge and skills the 2 nd quarter of 2017 PDI linked to Club Tiering (increased level for Certified Instructors) Equine Welfare Focus in Club Development Intern Program Soundness Testing & BCS scoring at I/I and NYTS Tournaments Equine Health Documentation required at I/I Events Equine usage Guidelines for all events BCS training & education Projected Year-End Focus for Topics and breakout sessions for: IMF College Polo 101 Young Industry Polo Professional (YIPP) Tournament Management Training Horsemanship & Nutrition Training at College Polo 101 & Youth Clinics I/I PoloSkilz video from D. Eldredge 2017 I/I Coach requirements: Rider, Equine, & Facility Safety Training through CPI Youth Concussion Protocol
7 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT USPA Clinic Program Status Year-End 2016 One of the outcomes of Strategic Planning was to restructure the USPA Clinic Program Focus USPA Adult Clinics on Player Performance Analysis [PPA] More emphasis on youth clinics & camps Increase Club Participation the 2 nd quarter of 2017 Refined the Program and trimmed fat offering more youth clinics, youth camps and intensive youth training sessions Collaboration with Auburn University to advance the Player Performance Analysis [PPA] initiative implementing the science behind the research Projected Development through Year-End Educated Polo Instructors on PPA Research at this year s Instructors Managers Forum Develop the Reimbursable Clinic Program which allows USPA Clubs to work oneon-one with a USPA Clinician of their choice
8 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Team USPA Need Year-End 2016 Add more overall Structure to the Team USPA Program Develop the Executive Program branch of the three legs of the Team USPA Stool Industry Professionals, Professional Players and Executives Develop core curriculum for Team USPA member education the 2 nd quarter of 2017 Launched a new educational platform for this year s Team USPA members hosted on Poloskilz Each member is now required to complete a core curriculum in the first year of being accepted into the program Team USPA Executive Program: Developed awareness and opportunities Projected Development through Year-End The next step for this initiative is for players to select a track Professional Player Industry Professional Executive In the second and third year each player will fulfill additional training to help them meet their goals and become invaluable resources for our local clubs Team USPA Executive Program: Develop future USPA leaders (committee members and board volunteers)
9 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT NYTS Need Year-End 2016 Expand the competition to allow for more peer to peer tournament level play for Skill Development Increase female participation Increase participation at Local Qualifiers Develop Horsemanship, Player Safety and Equine Welfare the 2 nd quarter of 2017 In 2017, Launching a Level II at NYTS Championships Promotion of Level II and overall program development at Local Qualifiers (has led to strong numbers of teams participating) Level II will require 2 Female players per team Projected Year-End 2017 Level II Implementation at NYTS championships in Santa Barbara Post Event Program Evaluation and Enhancement Inclusion of BCS, Soundness Testing and Youth Concussion Protocol at NYTS
10 CLUB DEVELOPMENT Intern Program Need Year-End 2016 Need for more program Structure specifically focused on skill and mentor development The polo eco-system is lacking the next generation of polo professionals, instructors, and managers Bridge the gap between I/I graduates and Club Polo the 2 nd quarter of 2017 Creation of the Polo Development Intern Sub-Committee to serve in an advisory capacity Structure Program Development in: Curriculum Development Mentor/ Training Center Recruitment Active Recruitment in I/I Projected Year-End 2017 Cross-Department Training with Player Development and I/I Programs (i.e. Tournament Management) Define Specific Metrics and Success Milestones Enhance Mentoring Program Develop specific intern Tracks
