The office administers and coordinates the facility use of the Aebersold Student Recreation Center (ARC), McFarland Recreational Sports Complex (MAC), campground and Ski Lodge. Programming includes aquatics, fitness, group exercise, intramural sports, club sports, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, safety certification classes and special events. These programs serve as learning opportunities for wellness concepts and overall student development. The Office of Campus Recreation is an auxiliary operation with revenue primarily generated through the assessment of the student recreation center fee, ARC Memberships, guest passes, facility rentals and program registrations. The revenue covers the entire Campus Recreation operation including personnel salaries and benefits, student employment, programming, facility utilities and operational fees, and lifecycle maintenance. The priority use for Campus Recreation facilities is as follows: 1) Campus Recreation programs and activities 2) SRU internal facility rentals/reservations/special events [a. university academics, b. university student organizations/programming] and 3) Non-SRU external facility rentals Campus Recreation TEAM Karen T. Student staff are supported by the Campus Recreation professional team, SRU administration and, when needed, the University Police. Please do not ask the student staff to make exceptions for you. If you would like to discuss a policy or procedure, offer a suggestion or voice a concern, please contact a professional staff member to set up an appointment.

Modified Hours ARC hours of operation are modified throughout the year based on the university calendar. The ARC may be closed due to holidays, semester breaks, special event programming, and unscheduled maintenance. Severe Weather Policy/Emergency Closure In the event that the University delays the start of weekday classes due to weather (typically a two-hour delay), the ARC will open at 10am. If the university closes, the ARC will be closed. Weather/emergency closures on weekends will be posted on the website and ARC info line ( )- please check/call before driving to campus. Maintenance / Holiday Closures The ARC is CLOSED for scheduled maintenance Entire ARC - August 5-11, 2018 Pool - August 3-18, 2018 (2 weeks) AND Holiday Break Dec 23, January 1, 2018 Membership Rates Waiver: All ARC members are required to complete an unedited ARC membership waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement. Memberships will not be sold unless an unedited waiver is completed. Military Discount: Campus Recreation appreciates and supports our active duty and retired military personnel and ALL veterans of our Armed Forces. A 10% military discount is available for membership purchase, which may be applied to combo or family memberships also. Please present one of the following to confirm your eligibility: DD214, Military ID (retired, active duty), Driver s License with Veteran status THANK YOU for your service! Silver and Fit: FREE ARC membership based on eligibility criteria from your health insurance carrier; Please bring in your insurance card and driver s license to check for eligibility. REFUND POLICY: You may cancel this agreement for any reason, without penalty, prior to midnight of the third business day after the date of purchase. Beyond the 3-day grace period refunds will be issued at a prorated schedule. Refund date is based on the date cancellation notice is received, not the last date the facility was used. Refunds are prorated for the remaining balance of the membership duration
3 ARC Access ID Policy The ARC is a controlled access facility requiring a photo ID and verification of age for access. Photos are taken for ALL membership or guest pass purchases. All ARC members, including youth are required to present their membership ID to be granted access to the ARC. The ID is required for each visit and is non-transferable. NO (Forgotten) ID Policy In the event that a member forgets their ID, access will be granted to the ARC four (4) times per calendar year. When all four exceptions are used, the member is required to present their ID tag or purchase a new ID. Membership Card Replacement In the event of a lost membership ID card: 1 st replacement = FREE 2 nd replacement = $3 Daily Guest Pass Daily guest passes are available for purchase ($8 per person/per day). Children age 2 and under are free with adult guest pass purchase. Each pass is valid for the entire day of purchase (receipt required for re-entry). Passes are non-transferrable. Driver s License/Photo ID with proof of age required for each purchase Waiver/Liability release signature required for initial purchase. Guest youth age 17 or younger require a parental/legal guardian waiver signature Guest Pass Access Restrictions Age 16 and older- Full ARC access, age require parental/legal guardian signature ARC Member, 16-17yrs, is NOT permitted to sponsor a guest under age 18 years of age. Age 15 and younger- Restricted Access/supervision- please see Youth Participation Policies below Gift Card Gift cards are available for purchase Minimum purchase price $35 Expire 1 year from date of purchase Please treat as cash, cards are not refunded if lost or stolen If gift card is redeemed for a membership the person redeeming the card must present a photo ID identifying date of birth Member Parking: EAST LAKE LOT ARC members and 1-day guest pass holders are issued a free parking permit for use in the EAST LAKE lot only - the permit does not guarantee a parking spot! Limited spaces are available during SRU special events. Permit MUST be displayed on the dashboard or rear-view mirror. Patrons utilizing handicapped accessible placard may park in any parking lot, in any available space, except for those spaces designated as reserved. Parking regulations are enforced 8am-430pm by University Police Locker rooms and Personal Belongings Students, ARC members and guests should use the locker room, bathroom and restroom facility that corresponds to their sex or gender identity. Lockers and showers are available. All Gender Bathroom An all gender single or family occupancy bathroom, with lockers and a shower, is available on the pool deck of the aquatic center. Children age 5 or older are not permitted to use the opposite gender locker room with parent/guardian - please use the all gender/family restroom on the pool deck for changing and supervision. Protect Your valuables! Please protect all personal belongings in a secured locker on the concourse or in the locker rooms. LOCKS are available for FREE checkout from the Welcome Center - SRU ID or ARC membership ID card or driver s license required OR provide your own lock! Personal belongings left unattended or unsecured are the responsibility of the owner! Locker Rentals Lockers are available for rent on a 4 month and 12 month basis in the men s and women s locker rooms. 4 Youth Participation Policies (updated 8/15/17) Youth Access Youth, age 15 and younger, have the following access and participation restrictions: Fall & Spring Academic Semesters - youth participation is only permitted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday ONLY, during all ARC hours, with appropriate supervision Holiday Winter Break and Summer Break - youth participation is permitted during all ARC hours of operation with appropriate supervision. ARC Facilities Available to Youth Youth, age 15 and younger, are permitted to use the following activity areas with appropriate supervision: Aquatic Center Gym A & B Rock Climbing wall All other areas require that a participant be age 16 or older. *Youth participation is not permitted for weekday (Monday- Thursday) holidays and/or snow days that occur during the Fall and Spring semesters. Youth Supervision Youth, age 12 and younger, must be directly supervised by an adult age 18 and older, at all times, within the facility. Youth age 13-15, must have adult supervision present in the ARC, but not direct supervision Youth Participation Policy Exception: Youth are permitted to use the ARC, outside of the general policy, if enrolled in a designated youth program or special event. Access is limited to the time and location of the program/event. Informal Recreation Informal recreation is voluntary unstructured use of the recreation facility. Often referred to as drop in or open recreation, informal recreation is the core of ARC operations, and provides ARC members a wide variety of exercise/sport options. Informal recreation requires no additional registration or payment prior to participation. Challenge Rules It is expected that informal recreation participants provide the opportunity to allow all who want to participate the opportunity to do so. As such, all courts operate under Challenge Rules wherein a winning team or individual can be challenged by another team. Monopolizing courts is not permissible. Court Scheduling & Priority Usage Although informal recreation is unstructured, the courts and pool are often scheduled to give specific activities priority use, such as intramural sports, group fitness and SRU special events. Court schedules may be adjusted to identify when certain activities are scheduled as priority activities. For example the volleyball net may only be set-up during specified times. Priority use dictates that certain activities may require a specific amount of participants to justify displacing other activities. Court schedules are posted weekly at the entrance to each court or at the Welcome Center. All schedules are subject to change without notice. Campus Recreation programming has priority scheduling. Equipment Check-Out A variety of sports equipment and balls are available for FREE check-out. SRU ID, ARC membership ID or driver s license is required. Patrons may be assessed a damage /replacement fee for all items not returned in the condition they were checked out. Patrons are responsible for returning checked-out items before ID is returned. 5 Informal Recreation Opportunities Aquatics Russell Wright Fitness Center Rock Climbing Wall Lap swimming, open general swimming, pool deck fitness (pull-up bar, dip machine, stretching mats) Free-weights, selectorized and plate loaded machines, cardio-machines, Core-U (Abdominal section). Exercise Specialists can assist patrons in establishing an exercise program, provide instruction to use equipment correctly and safely and conduct fitness assessments (appointment preferred). The climbing wall provides members the opportunity to embrace their adventurous side by participating in an alternative exercise activity. Bouldering, climbing without a rope up to 12 feet, is permitted during all ARC open hours. Top Rope climbing, climbing above 12 feet while attached to a rope, is available during designated hours of operation with ARC Staffing. No experience required, equipment and climbing shoes are provided at no charge. Over 18+ programs each year - only students who are in good standing and SRU faculty/staff, that have a current ARC membership, are eligible to participate in intramural sports. 6 Outdoor Adventures The Outdoor Adventures program provides members the opportunity to participate in adventure activities such as outdoor rock climbing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, cross-country skiing etc. Each program requires pre-registration, most programs require a fee. Some programs are available to ARC members, however, some programs are only offered to SRU students. Andy Loue andrew.loue@sru.edu Safety Certifications American Red Cross Safety Certification programs are offered throughout the year in First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguard, and Wilderness First Responder certifications. Classes, challenge and recertification are offered. All certifications require pre-registration and an additional fee to participate. Jim Yeamans james.yeamans@sru.edu Sport Clubs Special Events and Facility Reservations Club Sports provide opportunities for students with similar interests to participate in various sport and recreational activities. Sport Clubs bridge the gap between intramural and intercollegiate athletics by providing competition at specialized levels. Each club is student organized and may require club dues to participate. Multiple special events are conducted annually including many FREE events such as Health Fest, In the Pink Walk and National Sport and Fitness Day. The schedule also includes campus recreation sponsored tournaments and Mini-Triathlon, and community based events such as Special Olympics, Senior Olympics, Quad Rugby and Toys for Tots. Fundraising events, Up till Dawn with St. Jude s, and Relay for Life are sponsored by student organizations. Campus Recreation also hosts the annual UPB concert Mr./Ms. SRU Bodybuilding and Fitness Show, and the Collegiate Bouldering Competition series. Priority scheduling is given to Campus Recreation programs, student organization clubs and events, and academic classes. Rock n Rent group rentals are available for birthdays, team, church and scout groups.
7 Overview of Campus Recreation Policies The Aebersold Student Recreation Center is a student recreation center with privileges of membership made available to SRU staff and faculty and community members. Priority usage and scheduling is given to Campus Recreation programs, SRU student clubs and organizations, and facility rentals. Hours of operation are based on the Slippery Rock University academic calendar and are subject to change due to staffing, maintenance concerns, weather issues, or scheduled special events. SRU ID, ARC member ID or valid driver s license is required for access to the ARC. SRU/ARC ID is also required for participation in intramural sports programs. Driver s license or photo ID with proof of age is required for membership/guest pass purchase. An unedited SRU voluntary activity waiver must be signed. Parent / legal guardian MUST sign the waiver for all youth under age 18. Appropriate workout attire, swim suits and footwear is required in all activity areas. Shirts and shoes are required within the facility. Youth, under age 16, are permitted access, with appropriate supervision, at designated times only. ARC member s dependent youth age 15 and under have free access with their ARC youth card All campus recreation managed facilities are tobacco, drug and alcohol free Food and beverages are not permitted past the Welcome Center desk. Use of cameras in locker rooms is prohibited Challenge Rules apply to all informal recreation areas; 30 minute time limit may be enforced for use of fitness equipment during prime-time hours. Private instruction by independent contractors is prohibited - this includes sports training, personal training and swimming lessons. Campus Recreation is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available in locker rooms and on the concourse. Locks are available for checkout or personal locks may be used on all day lockers. Parking permits are issued for use in the East Lake Parking lot. Handicap accessible placards Patrons are responsible for adhering to all campus parking regulations. Minimum age for use of the RWFC is 16, unless enrolled in a scheduled program Dunking/hanging on the basketball rims is prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in immediate rejection from the ARC Emergency closures due to weather and other circumstances will be communicated via the campus recreation website, and voice mailbox greeting. In the event that the University delays the start of weekday classes, due to weather emergency, the ARC will open at 10 am Office of Student Conduct will address conduct issues involving students Office of Campus Recreation will address conduct issue involving non-student patrons (see Code of Conduct) Maximum age to use the opposite gender locker room is age 5, All Gender locker room is available The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to terminate any membership for cause based on the ARC Membership Terms and Conditions Agreement, ARC Policies and Procedures and/or violating the ARC s Code of Conduct or SRU rules and regulations All ARC Members are expected to know and abide with the ARC s Code of Conduct. The code of conduct is posted in the ARC, on the web page and included in the ARC Membership packet. All participants are expected to join the Office of Campus Recreation in promoting a positive and welcoming, equitable environment and to use mature judgment in choosing actions, behavior, clothing and language. Vulgar, inflammatory, offensive, demeaning, intimidating language, behavior, and attire are strictly prohibited.

9 ARC MEMBERSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS Aebersold Student Recreation Center (ARC) Memberships includes a member s right to use the ARC facilities in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, ARC policies and procedures and Slippery Rock University rules and regulations, as amended periodically. The privilege of membership carries no right, title, or interest in the Slippery Rock University Office of Campus Recreation or its assets, income, or earnings nor any rights to participate in the management control of the facilities or program operations. MEMBERSHIP TYPES: Campus Recreation memberships are limited to the membership structure listed below. ALL MEMBERSHIPS ARE NON- TRANSFERABLE A. Single: individual age 16 and older. B. Combination: two people living in the same household age 16 and older. C. Family: two adults and dependent children, age 16-18, living in the same household. WAIVER: All ARC members are required to complete an unedited ARC membership waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement. Memberships will not be sold unless an unedited waiver is completed. Youth, age 17 and younger, require parent/legal guardian signature. MEMBERS RIGHT TO CANCEL: A. You may cancel this agreement for any reason, without penalty, prior to midnight of the third business day after the date of purchase. B. Refunds - Beyond the 3-day grace period (with the exception of B and C), refunds will be issued at a prorated schedule. Refund date is based on the date cancellation notice is received, not the last date the facility was used. Refunds are prorated for the remaining balance of the membership duration. C. Death, your estate must notify the Office of Campus Recreation. The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to request medical notification of such occurrence. In the event of death the membership fees shall be proportionally divided by the days used by the member. A refund of the balance will be provided. D. Permanent Disability, you must notify the Office of Campus Recreation. The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to request medical notification of such occurrence. In the event of disability the membership fees shall prorated for the duration of the membership. A refund of the balance will be provided. Notification of cancellation must be submitted via , postal service or in person to: Office of Campus Recreation, ATTN: Director or Associate Director, 101 Stadium Drive, ARC 117, Slippery Rock, PA MEDICAL FREEZE: A temporary freeze in membership may be requested for medical reasons. The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to require medical documentation should it deem necessary. Medical freeze request must be made to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation. TERMINATION: The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to terminate any membership for cause based on the ARC Membership Terms and Conditions Agreement, ARC Policies and Procedures and/or violating the ARC s Code of Conduct or SRU rules and regulations. ARC POLICIES & PROCEDURES: ARC Members are responsible for knowing and abiding by all ARC Policies and Procedures. Policies and procedures are posted in the ARC, on the web page and in the ARC Membership packet. CODE OF CONDUCT: All ARC Members are expected to know and abide with the ARC s Code of Conduct. The code of conduct is posted in the ARC, on the web page and included in the ARC Membership packet. All participants are expected to join the Office of Campus Recreation in promoting a positive and welcoming, equitable environment and to use mature judgment in choosing actions, behavior, clothing and language. ACCESS: A valid properly working membership card is required to gain access to the ARC for [every] admittance. Membership cards are non-transferable. PERSONAL BELONGINGS: The Office of Campus Recreation is not responsible or liable for lost or stolen items. Free locks are available for check out at the Welcome Center to secure valuables in lockers. The Office of Campus Recreation staff will not supervise personal belongings.
10 LOCKER ROOM, BATHROOM, RESTROOM: Students, ARC members, and guests should use the locker room, bathroom, and restroom facility that corresponds to their sex or gender identity or use facilities identified as all-gender bathroom or all-gender restroom. The ARC offers gendered identified locker rooms as well as all-gender bathroom and restrooms. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rent for four and twelve month durations, and must match the duration of membership. DAMAGES & REPLACEMENT FEES: Members are responsible for any damage they cause to SRU property and may be charged a fee. Members can receive one free card as a replacement. All additional replacement cards will have a $3 fee. PARKING: Free parking passes are included with every ARC Membership and day pass purchase. Parking permit does not guarantee a parking space. Members are required to park in the East Lake Parking lot and display the pass on the vehicle s dashboard at all times. Failure to properly display a parking pass may result in a parking violation fine. Handicap accessible spaces are available in the East Lake and Swope commuter lots. FACILITY SUPERVISION: Student employees are the authority for applying ARC policies and procedures. HOURS OF OPERATION: All facilities are subject to availability. ARC operational hours are based on the SRU s academic calendar. Hours of operation are reduced during winter and summer sessions. The ARC is completely closed one week and the Aquatic Center is closed two weeks in August for annual maintenance. Throughout the year the ARC is closed multiple days for various holiday breaks. Hours of operation are subject to change throughout the year. Memberships are not pro-rated for ARC closures. EMERGENCY CLOSURE: Emergency closures due to weather and other circumstances will be communicated via the campus recreation website, and voice mailbox greeting. In the event that the University delays the start of weekday classes, due to weather emergency, the ARC will open at 10 am. YOUTH ACCESS AND PARTICIPATION: ARC Members- FREE Youth Card is provided to dependents, age 15 and younger, of current ARC members who are the parent or legal guardian. Non-Members- youth, age 15 and younger, must purchase a daily guest pass and have parental/legal guardian signature on the youth s wavier. ALL YOUTH under the age of 13 must be actively supervised by an adult, age 18 or older, at all times. Youth are only permitted to use the ARC on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the fall and spring semesters. During winter and summer breaks, youth are permitted to use the ARC during all hours of operation. Youth are limited to using the Aquatic Center, Rock Wall and Gyms A and B. Update: October 2017
11 SRU CAMPUS RECREATION CODE OF CONDUCT Participation in all Campus Recreation programs and facilities is a privilege. Campus Recreation is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for all that utilize our facilities and programs. We expect that all patrons, including students, community members, youth and guests to join in creating and promoting a positive and welcoming environment and to use mature judgment in choosing actions, behavior, attire, and language. PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS Read, understand and abide by all policies and procedures Treat the Campus Recreation staff and all patrons and guests with respect Act with character and courtesy while respecting the rights, welfare and dignity of all patrons and guests Follow all policies and procedures Act in a safe, responsible manner regarding themselves and others PROHIBITED BEHAVIOR Vulgar, inflammatory, offensive, demeaning, intimidating, threatening, coercive language Vulgar, inflammatory, offensive, demeaning, intimidating, threatening, coercive physical behavior Vulgar, inflammatory, offensive, demeaning, intimidating, threatening attire Fighting, physical altercation, unwelcomed physical contact Harassment of any kind Failure to adhere to facility and program policies and procedures Theft Facility and/or equipment damage outside of normal wear and tear Failure to adhere to staff directions Unauthorized use of facilities Compromise in personal or peer safety Improper use of video or audio recording Use of or under the influence of illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS CONSEQUENCES CAMPUS RECREATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REVOKE MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION PRIVILEGES SRU Student violations and sanctions will be administered by the Office of Campus Recreation and may be forwarded to Office of Student Conduct Community patron violations and sanctions will be administered by the Office of Campus Recreation A violation in facility and program policies may result in immediate dismissal from the recreational facility or program. Patrons who are instructed to leave the facility or program must leave the program and/or facility immediately. Campus Recreation reserves the right to call University Police when necessary Campus Recreation reserves the right to render judgment and impose a participation and/or facility usage sanction based on the code of conduct and/or policy violation Sanctions can range from one day suspension to permanent termination of membership privileges Sanctions are all inclusive, not program specific, but rather inclusive to all Campus Recreation programs and facilities Campus Recreation reserves the right to render judgment and decisions on policies not specifically covered Memberships are not prorated due to a suspension, the period of time will be lost as part of the violation of the code of conduct.
12 Violation Consequences Behavior/Misconduct First Offense Second Offense Subsequent Offense Violation of Code of Conduct &/or Policy & loss of privileges permanent/indefinite loss of privileges for 8+ days Procedure (Minor) for 1+ days suspension Theft of Services and/or Property loss of privileges loss of privileges for 90+ permanent/indefinite for 7+ days days suspension Verbal harassment/misconduct loss of privileges loss of privileges for 31+ permanent/indefinite for 7+ days days suspension Physical harassment/misconduct loss of privileges for 90+ days permanent/indefinite suspension *A suspension meeting is required by and with the Campus Recreation Administrative Staff, at which time an appropriate suspension will be assigned to the individual. This suspension will only take effect AFTER the time of the meeting; if the member does not meet with the Administrative Staff for a delayed period of time, the applied suspension will still only take affect after the time of the suspension meeting. Suspensions are handled on a case-by-case basis. Discipline Appeal Option Individuals who receive sanctions are welcome to follow the appeals option. The Campus Recreation Professional Team, to which a decision is appealed, will review the previous decision and rule on its appropriateness given the infraction(s) or circumstance(s) surrounding the specific case. As with any appeal, the Campus Recreation Professional Team may decide to lessen the penalty or uphold the previous decision. The Appeals form can be secured at the Campus Recreation office, ARC 117. The appeal process steps are: 1. The suspended participant must submit an Appeal form to the Campus Recreation director within 2 business days of the initial ruling. 2. The Campus Recreation Professional Team will review the appeal form, the initial ruling, and the sanction. In order to recommend that Campus Recreation reconsider the original decision, the following criteria must be established: o New evidence must be presented that is sufficient enough to alter the decision. o Procedural defects existed that substantially prevented the member from obtaining a fair ruling. o The discipline administered is found to be grossly disproportionate to the violation. 3. All disciplinary decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Each participant(s) actions, the situation and the circumstances surrounding them are considered to be unique, and therefore the following items will NOT be considered by the person/council/committee that reviews appeals: o Discipline administered to other participant(s) involved in the incident o Discipline administered to other participant(s) in other incident o Unfounded/unsubstantiated claims of bias or prejudice 4. The Campus Recreation Professional Team that reviews appeals will return a decision within five business days of the submission of the appeal form. January, 2016
