Dr. Woods Andrews thanked the Fruitridge Collaborative and the Sac BHC for hosting the meeting. It was announced that Gladys Deloney was featured in the Sac Cultural Hub magazine for her Innovations for Children Award. Highlights of two events were given: JuneTEENth, held June 15 in Cesar Chavez Park, had 400 young people and 100 adult allies attend. The Black Child Legacy Campaign was featured in the Beacon Art Installation at K & 10th Streets the week of June 19. Both of these events were used to increase outreach and elevate awareness of the campaign.

3 City of Sacramento Update Dr. Woods Andrews presented an update on the Steering Committee s partnership with the City of Sacramento. The co-chairs have met with Councilmember Larry Carr, who indicated he is supportive of the Black Child Legacy Campaign. The Steering Committee plans to make a formal presentation to the City Council and request continuation of their support for the Black Child Legacy Campaign. CPS Cultural Broker Update Kim Pearson, Division Manager, Child Protective Services, gave an update on the program, noting that three providers have been funded: Sacramento Children s Home (for Fruitridge/Stockton, Oak Park and Valley Hi), The Center at Sierra Health Foundation (for North Highlands/Foothill Farms and Del Paso Heights/North Sacramento) and Better Life Children Services (for Arden Arcade and Meadowview). A kickoff meeting will be held on June 28 to chart the Cultural Broker program path. The focus of this program is on reduction of African American child death goals and the opportunity to address disproportionality of African American children in the CPS system. Additionally, CPS has contracted with Margaret Jackson of Cultural Broker, Inc. in Fresno County for peer mentoring and Racial Sobriety Training to tie in all of the work. The training invitation can be opened to others. Ms. Pearson also provided an update on CPS internal efforts to connect to the Black Child Legacy Campaign, including presentations at management meetings, Ambassadors who want to go deeper and sharing the Wednesday Weekly Blast. CPS continues to work to make sure the appropriate staff are out-stationed and would like to do presentations in the community on becoming Resource Families. Community Incubator Lead Presentation: SacBHC Nakeya Bell, Project Lead, shared the work of the SacBHC, the Community Incubator Lead for Fruitridge/Stockton. See attached slides. Communications Vendor Update Kindra Montgomery-Block, Program Officer, The Center, gave an overview of the Black Child Legacy Campaign vision for the next year (see attached). Madeline Sabatoni, Program Associate, The Center, provided an overview of the new Communications Vendor process, including the application and FAQ (see attached). Announcements: There will be a Quality Assessment training in July for those interested. The next Steering Committee meetings will be held in the community please check your or the Steering Committee web page ( for locations. The County Department of Public Health has begun a six-step process for Perinatal Periods of Risk (PPOR) to enhance the work already being done regarding perinatal and infant sleep-related

4 deaths. This will compare deaths of children of Black mothers to other reference groups. The data will be presented by the end of next summer. Target Excellence s Black Male Restoration program begins July 11 and there are openings for middle and high school-aged youth. Two Participatory Action Research (PAR) trainings have been completed for youth and adult allies from each of the CILs. SETA has three employer trainings in July and will forward the flyers. All communication vendors must be selected from an approved vendor list on the Black Child Legacy Campaign website. Step One: Download and fill out the Black Child Legacy Campaign Communication Vendor Application Step Two: Return the completed form to raacd@shfcenter.org with BCLC Communications Vendor in the subject line. Step Three: Once approved, you will be placed on the Black Child Legacy Campaign Vendor List on our website at Step Four: Monitor the Black Child Legacy Campaign website for open contract opportunities and follow instructions for submitting a contract bid. Vendors on the approved vendor list may also be contacted directly with opportunities. Please note: All vendors listed on the approved vendor list will still be required to submit a scope of work and sign a contract to complete work with The Center.
