1 Harrisburg Campus November, 2013 Meet the Harrisburg campus admission staff Submitted by: Christina Wood, Interim Director of Recruitment We visit your high schools. We re in the community. We interact with hundreds of prospective students and families each month both oncampus and off. In many instances, we are the first line of contact in the enrollment process and the very faces of HACC. We are your recruitment team. Meet Elizabeth Stager, Allen Norton, Michael Turi, and Natalie Smith. They are part of a larger, college-wide recruitment team that not only works with prospective students in the early stages of the enrollment process, but also network heavily in our surrounding service areas to bring HACC information to the general public. What we do: Work together with faculty and other student affairs staff to develop targeted recruitment events for academic programs. Provide HACC information at community events, local businesses, agencies, and community centers, high schools, churches, and business expos. Coordinate outreach events such as open houses, information sessions, career information fairs, partnership days with high schools, and other special events for the purpose of recruiting students to HACC. Work with community partners to build strong referral relationships through events such as guidance counselor breakfasts, community partnership appreciation events, and by serving on a number of consortium groups and advisory boards. The Recruitment team also works closely with our College Pathways Office. We extend a hearty welcome to new College Pathways coordinator for the Harrisburg and Virtual campuses, Danielle Martin. This newly re-structured office seeks to strengthen our relationships with area high schools by offering dual enrollment programs such as Early Admissions and College in the High School. These programs allow for students in high school to get a head start on college by taking college courses in their high schools or on a HACC campus. The Recruitment and College Pathways offices are located on the 2nd floor of the Cooper Student Center. Stop by and see us sometime! 3 TEACHING TECHNOLOGY SERVICES Zombie Walk! Are you considering incorporating an online component into your course for Spring 2014, but have not yet become familiar with HACC s Learning Management System, Desire2Learn (D2L)? November is a great time to become acquainted with all that D2L can offer. Now is the time to get started in preparation for next semester! With that in mind, this month s TTS training sessions focus on the basics of using D2L. In addition, we offer some open workshops where you can bring your questions and challenges as you work on your course. You can register for training sessions at: Select Harrisburg for sessions conducted at Stabler Hall at the Harrisburg Campus. Select Virtual for sessions conducted online using Adobe Connect web conferencing. If you would like to discuss your ideas and develop a strategy for providing an online component to your class, you may contact TTS staff to schedule a consultation. TTS provides design and development guidance for your enhanced or blended course. Want to learn more? Teaching Technology Services (TTS) is available to help HACC faculty successfully integrate instructional solutions into their learning environments. 4 HACC Theatre features Frankenstein, The Radio Play during a Season of Moral Ambiguity Remember the good old days of radio when people had to use their imaginations when the mind was a stage? Those days are back only better! Victor Frankenstein and his friend, Henry Clerval, set out to create life using corpses stolen from graveyards. During a raging storm, Victor is successful but his scientific experiment has created a misshapen, inarticulate horror. Infuriated, the creature sets out on a murdering rampage, prompting Victor and Clerval to pursue it to the North Pole, to set right the tragic wrong they have created. With the aid of the Foley artists and talented voice actors, you can see as well as hear Mary Shelley s classic tale brought to life in this classic radio play! Frankenstein will be performed for the public on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. Student night performance is Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m., when all tickets will be $5 with valid student ID. All other performance tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. The box office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. For tickets, call ROSE (7673) or go to for more information. Directed by HACC Theatre Instructor, Dave Olmsted Frankenstein is produced by special arrangement with THE DRA- MATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Ill. Join the cast of Aquila Theatre Company, at 6:30 p.m., for a pre-show chat.
