2 Open Houses and Tours ONGOING Middlebury College Museum of Art exhibits Sabra Field, Now and Then: A Retrospective On the occasion of Sabra Field s 60th Middlebury reunion, this retrospective exhibition explores the depth and diversity of her six decades as a printmaker. Young America: Roy Lichtenstein and the America s Cup This exhibit recounts the history of that commission and the history of the America s Cup races before and since. The Lovings: An Intimate Portrait Photographs by Grey Villet This installation includes photographs of the aptly named Virginia couple whose interracial marriage was upheld by the Supreme Court in The photographs expand upon Grey Villet s Life magazine article about the couple, which inspired the 2016 Academy Awardnominated motion picture Loving. High school-age children and grandchildren of Middlebury alumni, faculty, and staff as well as students from Vermont high schools and their parents are invited. Preference is given to juniors in high school. This program gives an overview of the general selective college application process and does not focus on Middlebury College. The workshop for students covers: 1) The admissions process: the student s responsibilities in owning and directing the admissions process 2) An admissions office s responsibility in owning and directing the admissions process The workshop for parents addresses: 1)How to be a supportive and effective parent throughout the admissions process (Rick Hazelton, director of college advising at The Hotchkiss School, and Allison Stebe, Guidance Counselor at Middlebury Union High School, will be joining the parent panel) 2) a presentation and discussion of case studies of college applications. The student and parent workshops will run simultaneously. In separate sessions, there will be a financial aid overview as well as a hands-on session reviewing The Common Application process. Following the final presentation, individual afternoon appointments can be scheduled with Student Financial Services. In addition, for any students who are interested specifically in Middlebury College, a group information session will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. at Emma Willard House (the Admissions office), and campus tours will be offered at 2:30 p.m. Questions? Buchheit 72 and Anne Walsh Rimoin 92 10:15 a.m. Introduction by Matthew Jennings, editorial director for communications McCullough Student Center, Wilson Hall 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.: Lee C Buchheit 72 Lee is celebrating his 45th reunion and is currently a senior partner at the international law firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. After graduating from Middlebury, where he majored in philosophy, Lee received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and did post-graduate work at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. Lee joined Cleary Gottlieb after Cambridge and has served in the Washington, D.C., London, Hong Kong and New York offices of the firm. For the past 35 years, Lee has specialized in advising sovereign borrowers on debt management matters. He has worked for more than 22 countries, including Mexico, the Philippines, Russia, Iraq, Greece and Argentina. Lee has been present at all the major debt crises of the past three decades. According to the Guardian, his reputation among investors is as a fearsome and aggressive litigator, but finance ministers in distress see him as something of a fairy godmother. Lee has also held adjunct teaching posts at Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Duke, London and Edinburgh. 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.: Anne Walsh Rimoin 92 Annie Rimoin celebrates her 25th reunion with appreciation for the important role Middlebury has played in her career as an Epidemiologist, Professor, and virus hunter working to prevent pandemics before they start. Annie majored in History and developed an interest in Africa taking courses with her advisor, John Spencer. After graduating, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin before earning her Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) at UCLA and her Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. In 2004 she founded the UCLA-DRC Health Research and Training Program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to train U.S. and Congolese epidemiologists and conduct research on emerging infectious diseases. An Associate Professor of Epidemiology at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, she is leading cutting-edge research to understand long-term health consequences of Ebola virus infection and to develop effective vaccines and therapeutics for Ebola and other emerging viruses in DRC. Grey Villet, Barbara s late husband and Ann s father, was a photojournalist for Life and other major magazines. Among his many projects, Grey documented the marriage of Mildred and Richard Loving, the interracial couple who won a 1968 Supreme Court decision ending miscegenation laws in 16 states. His photographs, on display at the MCA, inspired a recent HBO documentary and the 2016 feature film Loving. They are also included in a recently published book: Loving: An Intimate Portrait with text by Barbara and Design by Ann. Kevin P.
