2 New Opportunities Welcome to The Redhill Academy Post-16 prospectus. We believe that every student deserves the very best education possible and our Post-16 provision will build on the excellent foundations already achieved at GCSE. We are delighted with our results this year with our best ever results at A level. The average A level point score per student was our highest ever at 848, and 34% of all grades were A*/A. Our specialisms in Performing Arts and Science are just two of the many areas in which we excel. We offer a broad and balanced range of exciting courses which are designed to challenge and stimulate learning for all students. Our Post-16 Centre has been designed to enable students to benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, and coupled with the Learning Resource Centre, allows students to harness 21st century technology to support their learning. We are proud of our students academic and personal successes, and aim to support and encourage all students as they strive to achieve the very best they can as they progress to university, further training or employment. 3 A welcome from the Director of Post-16 We are extremely proud of our Sixth Form. We have outstanding academic standards, excellent teaching and very high expectations of all our students. Last year for instance, 88% of Year 13 applied to go to university and all of them were successful in being offered a place. We always encourage our students to aim high and 50% of these students have continued on to top Russell Group universities. The Sixth Form team consists of a Trust Director of Post 16, Head of Year 12, Head of Year 13 and a Sixth Form Administrator. Our job is to ensure that you leave Redhill reaching your full potential. You will also receive outstanding teaching and guidance, which will include your own dedicated Sixth Form Tutor. You will be closely monitored and supported to enable you to not only achieve excellent results, but to also grow into a person who will successfully take their place in society. Medicine. We are thrilled that this year we have the largest number of students ever applying to Oxford and Cambridge and Medicine/Veterinary Medicine courses. We encourage all our Sixth Form students to become involved in the wider life of the school and we offer opportunities for students to become Senior Leaders, as well as mentors, fundraisers and Subject Ambassadors, all of which helps to produce well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world. The Redhill Academy Sixth Form is also driven by a desire to see students aim high in life and, as such, actively encourages students to apply to university or advanced apprenticeship. Every student has the opportunity to get involved in a range of events, from sport and competition to social activities and charity fundraising. The Sixth Form s close-knit community excels in developing the confidence and ambitions of students, helping them to achieve outstanding A-Level grades with encouragement from staff across the school. We have an aim to provide not only academic, but also personal support, so that all students can take their next steps feeling prepared, equipped and, most importantly, excited." 4 Support for students New Study Centre 2016 Post-16 students at Redhill are housed in a separate building specially designed for Post-16 study, with dedicated airy, modern teaching spaces and technology to support teaching and learning. The Post-16 centre includes the newly refurbished and expanded Study Centre, equipped with a new suite of desktop computers, MacBooks, printing facilities, independent work stations and group work tables. The centre hosts a library of Post-16 literature, including career journals, research opportunities and higher education information. Students also have access to the excellent facilities in the main school buildings, including Dance and Drama studios, sound proof Music rooms, newly furbished Science laboratories and specialist ICT suites. The Post-16 provision fosters a culture of independence, learning and success, and provides a wide range of opportunities for students to flourish as individuals. Every student will be supported and encouraged to aim high, enjoy new experiences and achieve their full potential. Our student support system is led by an experienced team including a Director of Post-16, Head of Year 12 and Head of Year 13, who work with a dedicated team of Sixth Form Tutors. The Sixth Form Team provide support and guidance to students throughout and beyond their A level study, as well as delivering a full PSHE programme geared towards managing the transitions taking place for students. We aim to help all students adjust to the new working methods of Post-16 study in a caring environment underpinned by a culture of hard work and commitment. We develop strong partnerships with all of our students, ensuring that we give regular careers guidance, financial advice and specific UCAS application support. At Redhill Academy Sixth Form we pride ourselves on students, teachers, tutors and parents working together to achieve excellence. 6 Beyond the classroom Redhill offers a wide-ranging Post-16 Enrichment Programme. You will have the chance to further develop skills that will ensure you leave Redhill as an active citizen. There will be opportunities for you to choose from a range of extra qualifications and activities such as: Extended Project Qualification Further Mathematics Taking part in Performing Arts activities Young Enterprise Becoming Senior Students, taking Duke of Edinburgh Award on leadership roles within the school Community Sports Leadership Award Multimedia Group Cookery for students Get ready for Teaching programme Playing for school sports teams RE Ambassadors There is no limit to the opportunities offered at Redhill. 7 2018 Redhill Trust minimum entry requirements for Post-16 study All students must attain five 9-4 grades at GCSE (or BTEC equivalents) with preferably a grade 5 in either English Language / Literature or Mathematics. Individual subjects may require a 4 grade in a particular subject at GCSE (see course booklet), the exception to this being Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics which require a grade 5. All students will be expected to choose 3 A levels which they will study for 2 years. Due to recent changes in curriculum and assessment practice, students will no longer sit an AS exam at the end of Year 12 but will sit all examinations at the end of Year 13. In addition students will choose to study an enrichment course which they will follow in Year 12. All students will be interviewed by a member of the Sixth Form team. This will enable them to make an informed choice about the best subjects to suit their individual needs. Parents are welcome to discuss these choices with the Sixth Form team following the interview....the sixth form teaching seen here during the inspection was outstanding. Consequently, sixth formers are making excellent progress. 2013
