The senior averaged 16.5 points and was the leading scorer for the Terriers in games at Wisconsin and against UNC Greensboro at home last week. Drew Gibson Wofford Gibson scored 16 points with three rebounds, assists and a steal against the Badgers on Dec. 3 in 37 minutes of action. Gibson scored a game-winning three-pointer with four seconds left to lift Wofford to a victory over UNC Greensboro on Dec. 8. Gibson scored 10 points for the Terriers in the game s final two minutes and finished the contest with 17 points. Other notable performances were turned in by Davidson s Stephen Curry, Kyle Hines of UNC Greensboro, Marcus Watts of Chattanooga and Western Carolina s Michael Porrini.

Coach Jimmy Tillette s team finished in with an RPI of 76. Samford currently competes in the Ohio Valley Conference. With a triumph over Jacksonville State on Dec. 6 in their last outing, the Bulldogs improved to 3-4 on the season, 1-0 in OVC play. SoCon.TV The Southern Conference has partnered with XOS Technologies to offer a premium content web site at The web site features streaming video of conference athletic events and is available on a subscription basis. SoCon.TV offers live streaming video of most Southern Conference championship events, as well as regular season contests through the year on a regular basis. Women s Championships 25th Anniversary The Southern Conference is celebrating 25 years of women s championships in The year-long celebration of women s sports will highlight studentathletes, coaches and teams. Commissioner Ken Germann spearheaded the Southern Conference s expansion to include women s athletics. The Germann Cup, named in honor of the former commissioner, annually recognizes the top women s athletics programs in the conference. From its humble beginnings, women s athletics have become an integral part of the Southern Conference and its success. The league crowns champions in nine women s sports including cross country, soccer, volleyball, indoor track & field, basketball, tennis, golf, outdoor track & field and softball. 3 NORTH DIVISION Appalachian State Following the Mountaineers loss at Georgia Southern on Dec. 1, Appalachian State is not scheduled to return to action until Dec. 17 when coach Houston Fancher s team hosts Virginia-Wise. Jeremy Clayton had seven blocked shots prior to the break (three against Davidson and four versus Wichita State). He needs 35 blocks to become ASU s all-time blocked shot leader. Sophomore guard Ryann Anderson averaged 10.3 points in ASU s last three contests while dishing out 13 assists and grabbing eight rebounds. Elon After winning the first four games of the season at Alumni Gym, Tusculum snapped the streak by posting a win over the Phoenix on Dec. 5. Elon will take a break from the court to concentrate on final exams. The Phoenix will not return to the hardwood until Dec. 15 when Wofford visits Alumni Gym. Following the home date with Wofford, the Phoenix play five consecutive road contests. UNC Greensboro Kyle Hines moved into second place on the SoCon s career blocked shots list. Hines has 273 career rejections, passing Furman s Georgia Singleton ( ). Hines scored 19 points with 17 rebounds against Wofford on Dec. 8, marking the 34th double-double of his career. He is second among active players, trailing only Rider s Jason Thompson. UNC Greensboro s loss at Wofford on Dec. 8 marked the first time in five seasons that the Spartans have lost their SoCon opener. Chattanooga Junior guard Stephen McDowell is scheduled to graduate with a bachelor s degree in Finance on Dec. 16. Chattanooga lost a decision to state rival Tennessee on Dec. 4. The Mocs set a new attendance record with 11,211 on hand at McKenzie Arena for the game. The Mocs outrebounded the No. 10-ranked Vols, in the contest. The Mocs are off for final exams until Dec. 15 when they host College of Charleston in a SoCon contest. Western Carolina The Catamounts began a five-game homestand by posting an victory over North Carolina Central on Dec. 5. Freshman guard Michael Porrini scored a career-high 17 points in the victory. Western Carolina s top five scorers are underclassmen led by freshman Michael Porrini (13.1 ppg). Due to final exams, the Catamounts will be off until a road trip to the Midwest to take on No. 15-ranked Indiana (Dec. 15) and Illinois (Dec. 17). 4 SOUTH DIVISION College of Charleston College of Charleston enters the week as winners in its last three contests and four of its last five. The Cougars do not play a game at Kresse Arena until Dec. 29 when they host Mercer in the opening round of the Jim N Nicks Cougar Classic. College of Charleston slipped past Western Carolina, 86-84, on Dec. 1, marking its ninth consecutive win over the Catamounts. Cougar reserves chipped in 34 points in the win. Junior forward Jermaine Johnson was named SoCon Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 3 after averaging 23.5 points and 12.0 rebounds as College of Charleston downed Charleston Southern (79-70) and Western Carolina (86-84). The Citadel Zach Urbanus scored 21 points in a win over cross-town rival Charleston Southern on Nov. 26. Urbanus shot 60 percent (15-of-25) from the field and averaged 22.5 points in two games prior to the break. Cameron Wells scored a career-high 20 points in The Citadel s setback at Chattanooga on Dec. 1. The Bulldogs are off this week and return to action on Dec. 13 at Davidson. Davidson Sophomore guard Stephen Curry is sixth in the nation in scoring, averaging 24.6 points. Guard Jason Richards leads the nation in assists, dishing out 9.1 per game. The Wildcats have battled three Top 10 teams this season falling to No. 1-ranked North Carolina (72-68), No. 7-ranked Duke (79-73) and No. 7-ranked UCLA (75-63). Furman With a loss at Mercer on Dec. 5, freshman-laden Furman fell to 0-7 for the first time since a 0-8 start in Furman s starting line-up includes four freshmen (Justin Dehm, Bobby Austin, Jordan Miller and Noah States). Georgia Southern Freshman Willie Powers set career marks for points (26) and rebounds (7) in an triumph against Mercer on Nov. 26. Senior Louis Graham has averaged 10.8 rebounds in the last five contests. The team s 6-1 start is the best for the Eagles since starting 6-1 in Wofford The Terriers were at full strength for the first time this season against UNC Greensboro. Matt Estep and Shane Nichols each saw their first action of the season in Wofford s win over the Spartans. The Terriers lead the league in scoring defense, yielding just 56.2 points per game.
