8 CNRS INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION (2) I PICS: International Cooperation Project I based on an ongoing collaborative relationship I researchers must respond jointly to a call for proposals I implementation after a positive bilateral co-evaluation I funding aims at mobility: visits, meetings, and small equipment I 3 years, not renewable I GDRI: International Research Network I brings together several laboratories from two or more countries to coordinate research on a specific topic I funding is used mainly for mobility, seminars and workshops I 4-8 years 8
9 CNRS INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION (3) I LIA: International Lab «without walls» I brings together partner institutions which contribute human & material resources to a jointly-defined project I laboratories retain their independence, legal status, directors &locations I the LIA is coordinated by 2 P.I. (who submit a research program to the steering committee) I joint funding for mobility, small equipment I 4-8 years I UMI: joint lab in single location & permanent CNRS staff I located either in France or in another country I staffed by personnel from both the CNRS and the partner country I headed by a Director, jointly appointed by CNRS & partner institution I 4-12 years I mirror structure = associated labs in France to facilitate cooperation 9
