8 Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP) Based on intergovernmental agreements or agreements at ministerial-level meetings Countries and research fields of cooperation are designated by MEXT Japan (MEXT) Notice (Country & Field of Cooperation) Program Scheme Agreement Ministry of Counterpart Country Notice (Implementation Policy) Strategic International Cooperative Program (SICP, since 2003) has been merged to Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP, since 2009). JST and the counterpart agency fund joint research projects in the designated field. 9 The Japan-EU Cooperation in FP7 Open calls on Environment through SICP (2008, 2009, 2010) JST joined 6 FP7 open calls in the field of Environment Funding was mainly to support research exchange with 23 M. JPY for three years per project 4 projects were supported through 3 invitations for JP applicants ( ) Coordinated call on Superconductivity through SICORP (2010) A larger scale cooperation on Superconductivity was discussed between MEXT and EU in JST and EU jointly organized EU-Japanese Experts' Workshop on Novel Superconducting Materials in November 2009 in Brussels. Coordinated call was opened in Funding scale on Japan side was approximately 150 M. JPY per project 3 out of 19 applications were funded and supported ( ) Coordinated call on Development of New Materials for the Substitution of Critical Metals through SICORP (2012) A new cooperation on Rare metal was discussed in JST and EU jointly organized Japan-EU Workshop Substitution of Critical Raw Materials in November 2011 in Tokyo Coordinated call was opened in Funding scale on Japan side was approximately 150 M. JPY per project 3 out of 33 applications were funded ( ) 9

12 Multilateral Cooperation with SICORP CONCERT-Japan is an international ERA-NET project funded by the European Commission Framework Programme for Research and Technology Development (FP7) Consortium : 13 organizations from 9 countries Turkey (Tubitak) -Coordinator/Japan (MEXT/JSPS/JST) France (CNRS/MAEE*/MESR*)/Germany (DLR/ZENIT/DFG*/BMBF*/MIWF NRW*) Hungary (BZAKA/NKTH*/NEFMI*)/ Italy (CESTEC/RL)/Norway (RCN) Spain (MICINN)/Switzerland (ETH Zurich) (*observers) 1st Pilot Joint Call on Resilience against Disasters and Efficient Energy Storage and Distribution 9 projects were adopted from 96 proposals 2nd Pilot Joint Call on Photonic Manufacturing 4 projects were adopted from15 proposals The activities supported by FP7 was completed on Dec But, EIG CONCERT-Japan has started from 2015 without EC support. We are welcome to participate in the consortium. 12

13 EIG CONCERT-Japan (Current Calls for Proposals) Research area: Food Crops and Biomass Production Technologies Period of the Call for Proposals Wednesday 10th February 2016 until Thursday 28th April 2016, 20:00 (Japan time) Details of Support Research networking and exchange projects selected for funding in this call will receive support for a period of 3 years totaling no more than approximately 18M JPY.
