Advanced Fire Police: Class Fee: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This course will touch upon training and the training officer's qualifications, policy & procedures, legal liabilities, court appearance, leadership, communications and public relations, defensive driving, traffic control, security, self-protection and uniforms. Dates: (April 9 th, 16 th, 23 rd & 30 th ; 18:30 22:30) (November 9 th, 10 th, 16 th, & 23 rd ; 18:30 22:30) Arson Awareness / Introduction to Fire Scene Examination: Class Fee: $75 (12 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This class is geared toward the fire company level officer or member who is primarily responsible for or involved with the initial on scene origin and cause evaluation. It will be a refresher for those already conducting fire scene examinations. It will also serve as an introductory approach to those who wish to further their training or are beginning to get involved with fire scene examinations. This class will cover the basic concepts involved in a fire scene examination and 921. Discussion will include: fire and fire progression, effects of ventilation, building construction, electrical circuitry, scene examination, classifications of fires, scene photography, report writing, and documentation. The class will consist of an in class lecture as well as a hands on field exercise. Those attending will have the opportunity to conduct a fire scene examination. This course is suitable for both novice and veteran emergency vehicle operators. Consisting of 8 hours of classroom and 8 hours of driving on a competency course, it will teach, reinforce, and review those issues and skills needed by anyone who operates a motor vehicle in responding to an emergency. This is the first of four courses in the curriculum. The course covers recognition of a heart attack and stroke, EMS system activation, use of recovery position, rescue breathing, management of airway obstruction and the use of barrier devices. 9 Haz-Mat First Responder Awareness (RIHM): Class Fee: $15 (4 Hours, Minimum Age: 14) Pa DOH CE Credits: FR, EMT & ALS: 4 (O) Seven tasks have been identified as part of a process for analyzing the hazardous material problem. This course focuses on the first four tasks in this process: 1.) Detecting the presence of hazardous materials 2.) Initiating command and control activities 3.) Surveying the hazardous material incident; and 4.) Collecting and interpreting hazard and response information. 5.) The tasks not addressed in this course are discussed in other courses. This course describes how each step is performed and then asks the participants to apply the concepts presented to a particular activity so that the participants can evaluate their mastery of the concept. The program provides the student with the decisionmaking process and skills required to recognize unsafe acts and conditions and take appropriate corrective actions. 10 Pump Operations 1: Class Fee: $40 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This course provides the fire fighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as operating techniques. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose streams, and prevention of common mistakes in pump operations. Information is provided from existing fire departments utilizing the concept successfully. Topics include: Definitions and history of rapid intervention teams, case studies, firefighter death statistics and causes, applicable NFPA and OSHA standards related to RIT, implementation recommendations, and demonstration of firefighter rescue techniques. Topics covered include: Staffing the RIT, searching for missing firefighters, accessing and assessing a downed firefighter, and rescue / removal procedures. Concepts are presented using focused practical / skill sessions and integrated exercises. Topics covered include: Advanced concepts in RIT, managing the RIT portion of a mayday incident, considerations for commercial, industrial and multiple residential occupancies, dealing with entrapment and entanglement situations, heavy lift operations, extended operations involving multiple teams, and packaging / removal of downed firefighters. Concepts are presented using focused practical / skill sessions and integrated exercises. Tank trucks and large diameter hose are utilized. Safe, efficient and recommended methods are discussed, demonstrated, and practiced. 11 Traffic Incident Management: Class Fee $25 (4 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This National TIM Responder Training Program establishes the foundation and promotes consistent training for all responders to incidents involving operations on or near a highway. The PA-TIM objectives primarily target operations and special risks to personnel performing fire, rescue & EMS functions. This program examines those risks and provides nationally recognized actions to minimize / reduce those risks. Dates: (March 23 rd ; 18:30 22:30) (July 7 th ; 18:30 22:30) (November 30 th ; 18:30 22:30) Truck Company Operations 1: Class Fee: $50 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) Truck companies, regardless of whether they arrive on an aerial device, squad, or engine, are the combat engineers of fire attack operations. This course, for experienced fire fighters, will introduce the student to the basic concept of truck company operations and duties, including organizing the delivery of truck company services, selection and use of key tools, advanced ventilation and forcible entry theory and practices, search and rescue, and other fire attack support functions.
