1 Senior Leadership Briefing and Recovery Snapshots Hurricane Maria, Irma, Harvey and Tropical Storm Nate Sunday, October 8, 2017 (5:00 a.m. EDT) Updates in Blue Current Situation: Caribbean: Numerous showers and thunderstorms will impact the Islands through Tuesday, with about 1-3 inches expected (especially during the afternoon hours), with locally heavier amounts possible (especially the higher terrain of Puerto Rico) through Tuesday evening. Any storms that develop will cause some localized flooding, some lightning and gusty, erratic winds. Heat indices across the lower altitudes will approach 100 F, which could lead to heat related illnesses for more vulnerable populations (e.g. elderly, those with asthma). Flash Flood watches may be issued over the next few days. (NOAA Update, October 8, 2017, 5:00 a.m. EDT) Tropical Storm Nate: At 5:00 AM EDT (0900 UTC), center of Tropical Storm Nate was near 31.5 North, 88.4 West and moving north-northeast near 23 mph (37 km/h). An increase in speed is expected during the next couple of days. Nate's center will continue to move inland across the Deep South, Tennessee Valley, and central Appalachian Mountains through Monday, and is expected to degenerate into a remnant low by late Monday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles. Rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches, with localized amounts near 10 inches possible over the central Gulf Coast into the Deep South, eastern Tennessee Valley, and southern Appalachians. Across the lower Ohio Valley into the central Appalachians: 2 to 5 inches, max 7 inches. (NOAA Update, October 8, 2017, 5:00 a.m. EDT) 1
