1 Jeffrey K. Scott, MBA,CLEE December 12, 2016 The Honorable Jesse J. Nehez, Mayor: With over 26 years of experience in public safety and over 21 years of progressive, current, law enforcement and leadership experience, I believe I would be an excellent candidate for the consideration of the position: Chief of Police. The majority of my career has been in public safety, education, training and executive level management and leadership. My experience includes, but not limited to: strategic planning, development and implementation; public policy development; modern law enforcement management principles, concepts, methods, application, and practices; finance and budgeting; general departmental management and oversight; executive level planning and leadership; contract negotiations and labor management/relations; exceptional skills in dealing with the community and developing cooperative core strategies for positive law enforcement action; training and staff development; accreditation; liability reduction strategies; and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Presently, I am the Chief of Police of the Notre Dame College Police Department (a working Chief of Police position). I lead and supervise a 28-member police agency consisting of: 7 fulltime, 11 part-time and 5 auxiliary OPOTA commissioned police officers as well as 2 fulltime and 3 part-time support staff members. My background includes a vast array of experience, diversity (multi-functional and collaborative), and community orientated police leadership. Additionally, I have led our agency in many new initiatives including: a new bike patrol program; crime prevention and education program; community policing; equipment and standards upgrades; new dispatch and communications center; and, an entire rewrite of our agencies policy and procedures to be in full compliance with nationally accepted best practices of operation. We most recently were awarded and received our accreditation under the Ohio Collaborative Board from the Ohio Office of Justice Services (OCJS) and are working towards national accreditation as a law enforcement agency. My extensive educational background includes a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor's Degree in Public Safety Management. I am a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Leadership College (PELC). Further, I am an Ohio Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) and an active OPOTA Basic Law Enforcement Instructor and Firearms Instructor (OPOTA). I have extensive background and experience in Emergency Management and critical incident response, in addition to my current Paramedic and Firefighter certifications. As an ethical, character driven leader, I believe I possess the experience, education and real-world leadership qualifications to be a valuable asset to your community; leading your police department in excellence to meet and exceed the mission of the Village of Northfield. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss my qualifications for this opportunity. Sincerely, Jeffrey K. Scott, MBA. CLEE
