2 Law Enforcement Officers Regional Training Commission & Delta College Police Academy Presents Basic FTO Course How to become an Effective Field Training Officer This 4-day (32 hour) course is designed to provide knowledge and training to develop Field Training Officers skills. Each new FTO will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills. This course is based on a modified San Jose program. Upon completion the FTO will be able to: Discuss the San Jose and other program models Identify demands on FTOs as Instructors List five of the errors in rating Understand the basics of Adult Learning Theory Identify liability issues Understand performance evaluations Instruct from Training Briefs Understand the Rating Scale and Reference Numbers Complete the Daily Observation Report Develop a Scenario and additional Training Plans Understand the purpose of program management and control Instructor: Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions. In 2000 Lieutenant Kellams was instrumental in redesigning the field training program for the Bloomington, Indiana Police Department and has taught that program to hundreds of departments throughout the United States. He has also instructed on field training issues at the national level when he presented courses at the 2002 and 2008 National Association of Field Training Officers conference. In 2005, Lieutenant Kellams was awarded the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for Monroe County, IN for his work in Field Training. Body cameras are offering public safety agencies the opportunity to be more transparent with their community as well as provide a view from an officer s perspective rather than just a bystander holding a cell phone. This seminar is not about how to clip a body camera to a uniform and turn it on. The manufacturers of this technology have made that part simple. This seminar is geared for command staff that will face managing the entire program from data storage, CJIS security, accessibility, legal requirements, public records requests, camera selection, and much more. The class provides you with valuable and time saving hands-on knowledge from a seasoned LE administrator of a body camera system. By use of studies, videos, and accounts of events that have occurred, this course will provide the attendee with the information necessary to make an informed decision on how to conduct research and implement a body camera system. 4 CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN INSTRUCTOR: Special Agent Al Danna retired in November 2014 as Coordinator of the Crimes against Children Unit for the Tampa Bay Region of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). For twentyseven of those years he was assigned to FDLE s Violent Crime Squad. A nationally recognized expert in Crimes against Children, Special Agent Danna has lectured throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America that includes colleges, universities, police academies, advocacy centers, as well as National and International Conferences. He began his law enforcement career with the Baltimore Police Department and became the first detective in the history of the department assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit investigating Crimes against Children. Special guest appearance by Terry Thomas (retired) - Special Agent Terry Thomas worked with the Division of Criminal Investigation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in the Crimes against Children Unit since A nationally recognized expert in the areas of physical and sexual abuse investigations, Terry facilitated the development of the nation s forefront Rapid Response Team (RRT) that investigates child abuse cases having multiple victims. His innovative mobile interview room has been the prototype for program design in other States. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 40 hour course in investigating Crimes Against Children includes training on the diagnostic elements of pedophilia, preferential and situational typologies, interviewing child molesters, conducting forensic interviews of child victims, pedophile organizations, child erotica and child pornography, child abductions, Amber Alerts, sex offender registration, child rapists, physical child abuse, child death investigations, cyber-crime investigations and setting up a Child Abduction Response Team (CART). It will review the short and long-term effects on law enforcement officers on both the personal and professional aspects of their lives. Dr. Kevin Gilmartin is a behavioral sciences and management consultant specializing in law enforcement and public safety areas. He formerly spent twenty years in law enforcement in Tucson, Arizona. He is the author of the book Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement and numerous articles published by the Dept. of Justice. Chief Robert White is a former Deputy Chief with the Flagstaff Arizona Police Department where he served for thirty-one years. He has extensive experience instructing both law enforcement training sessions and at the University level in the area of management principles and customer services.

6 Lansing Police Department Is Hosting First Responder Computer Analysis Training Lansing Police Department- Michigan Tuesday, November 10 th, Wise Road Lansing, MI Analyze computer evidence quickly with the use of Field Search Software (Law Enforcement/ Government Training) Basic Field Search (v4.1) Software Certification Course Field Search is a powerful investigative tool for patrol officers, detectives, probation/ parole officers, military personnel, department I.T. staff, and other first responders. Field Search software is deployed from a USB drive by officers in the field (probation enforcement, search warrants, knock and talks, etc.). It provides a quick examination of a suspect s computer by officers with little or no computer experience. Field Search was designed specifically for use in the field by criminal justice professionals who are not trained in the discipline of computer forensics. The software rapidly locates and reports on Internet histories, images, multimedia files and results from text searches. It works on both Windows based PCs, and Macintosh computers. Students of all computer skill levels walk out of this one day course able to confidently search digital devices, create court worthy reports, and hold offenders accountable for their electronic actions. Description: Field Search is a suite of software products developed by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC). Field Search Will Quickly Search through files on computer hard drives, flash drives, cards from digital cameras and other digital devices and is extremely fast. The report is made and saved back onto the Field Search USB drive. Field Search will find and display for investigation: URL records (i.e. even some records the suspect believes he deleted! Images (Pictures) several different formats...jpeg, GIF, BMT, PNG, and many more. Videos (Movies) several different formats...wmv, MPEG, FLV etc. Files sitting in the recycle bin (user believes they deleted these files, date and time they were deleted). A very powerful keyword search to allow custom quick investigation looking for addresses, victim names and numbers, credit card or account numbers etc. The National Law Enforcement & Corrections Center (NLECTC) has established a group of Certified Field Search Instructors (CFSIs) to deliver training on this software tool. All students will receive a licensed copy of this software upon completion of the course, as well as a flash drive, digital course materials, numerous freeware diagnostic tools.
