GIBSON A 1944 dated and cased Type P- 8 aircraft compass in working order with a last inspection date of 2 April This Canadian- made compass was used in several types of aircraft, mostly single engine fighters, primarily Spitfires. This engraving was done on brass, which has been silver plated, to highlight the contrasting colours and engraved contours. The Spitfires have been bracketed with four engraved silver plated Royal Air Force wings, which are similar in pattern to RAF sweetheart wings. Lastly there is a silver plated label reading This Engraving is in Commemoration of The Battle of Britain The above silver items have been mounted on a bronzed brass plaque. This fantastic artwork is cased in a blue leather bound, custom- made box with brass hinges and dual brass clasps.
