This guide also contains more specific information relating to South West Region, Devon & Somerset Wing, and 722 Squadron. Wings There are 36 Wings, 6 per Region. The six Wings in our Region are: Plymouth & Cornwall, Devon & Somerset, Dorset & Wilts, Hants & Isle of Wight, Bristol & Gloucester, and Thames Valley. Our Wing HQ is Devon & Somerset Wing HQ, located at Wyvern Barracks, Exeter. Regions There are 6 Regions in the Corps. 5 Corps Structure Unit Level Air Experience Flights There are 13 Air Experience Flight units around the UK. Our Air Experience Flight is No 3 AEF, based at Colerne airfield with periodic detachments to RAF St Mawgan and Exeter Airport. Volunteer Gliding Schools There are 28 VGS units in the UK, plus Central Gliding School based at RAF Syerston. Our nearest VGS is 624 (Chivenor) VGS, which flies the Vigilant T Mk1. The other VGS in the Wing is 621 (Hullavington) VGS, which flies the Viking T Mk1 Adult Training Facility 1 As well as the Initial Officer/SNCO Courses and Promotion Courses, ATF also run the Adult SNCO Drill Instructor s Course and several ACP subject courses, particularly the navigation courses. Other courses are run at RAF Stations around the country, for example RAF Cosford runs courses for subjects such as Principles of Flight and Propulsion. Parenting Station A Parenting Station is a military establishment (normally an RAF Station) responsible for the provision of equipment and services. Each Squadron is assigned its own Parent Station. Our Parent Station is RAF St Mawgan, as for most of the Devon Squadrons in the Wing. RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire parents most of the Somerset squadrons. Affiliated Station An Affiliated Station is a military establishment (normally an RAF Station) responsible for the provision of facilities and regular personnel for training purposes. Stations are assigned to a Wing, rather than a Squadron. Devon & Somerset Wing s Affiliated Station is RAF St Mawgan. 1 Formerly known as the Air Cadet Training Centre (ACTC) Page 5 of 12 Revised 11/04

7 Filing System The filing system is currently in a 3-tier structure. Each file has a unique code of the form, GGG/SS/CCC, made up as follows: Group GGG A three character code indicating the Group. There are five Groups: COR Correspondence, EQP Equipment, ORG Organization, PER Personnel, TRG Training Subject SS A two-digit number for a particular Subject under the Group. For example, in the Training Area (TRG), there are the following Subjects: 01 Flying and Gliding, 02 Camps, 03 ATC Syllabus, 04 Adventure Training, 05 Radio Communications, 06 Duke of Edinburgh Award, 07 Sport, 08 Drill & Ceremonial, 09 Shooting, 10 Other Activities. Category CCC A three-digit number for a particular Category under the Subject. For example, in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Subject (TRG/06), there are the following Categories: 001 Policy, 002 General, 011 Service Section, 021 Expedition Section, 031 Skills Section, 041 Physical Recreation Section, 051 Residential Project, 061 Millennium Volunteers. Filing When filing paperwork, it should have its filing code written in the top-right corner of the paperwork (so if removed in future it is easy to see where to file it again) and then filed in the brown coloured folder within the hanging file for the filing code (for example all paperwork relating to the Service section of D of E would be filed in the filing cabinet under TRG/06/011). All documents should be filed in order of date, with the newest material on top. In most cases, documents should only be kept on file for 3 years, after which it should be disposed of in a way suitable to the security level of the document (in most cases, it can simply be binned, though more sensitive documents may need to be shredded). Correspondence All correspondence for a subject should have the code for its file location in the Our Reference area, prefixed with 722/ (so for example all correspondence for the Service section of D of E should have 722/TRG/06/011 written in the Our Reference area).
