9 USAF GME USAF GME programs develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes of highly qualified medical personnel to support the missions of the AFMS ensuring maximum wartime readiness and combat capability. Our training programs help ensure the competency and currency of USAF medical personnel maintaining the health of DOD personnel providing health care to deployed military personnel providing a peacetime system of health for all beneficiaries.

10 GME Program Quality Metrics Accreditation success 100% Air Force programs have full or initial accreditation by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) National average of US programs is 98%* Majority of our eligible programs are in Substantial Compliance Board Certification 24 /31specialties have a 100% first-time board pass rate All 31 specialties exceed the national average for first-time board pass rate in their specialty *Source: ACGME Data Resource Book Program leaders, faculty and trainees serve in key national leadership positions in the American Board of Medical Specialties, the ACGME, and national specialty societies.

17 How to be successful at the JSGMESB Timely communication with my office Keep us informed of phone number/ /address changes Websites provide information and deadlines, don t hesitate to contact us with questions Medical school performance predicts future success! Perform your best on the Steps and rotations Dean s letter defines where you rank in your medical school class even if your school doesn t rank. Talk to the USAF Consultant for your specialty of interest about the career field, practice opportunities, research, etc. Show the programs your best work ethic on clerkship rotations Interview by phone at all the programs you do not rotate at Consider a second choice specialty
