3 November 2018 Page 3 VA Benefits to Receive the Largest Increase in Years On October 9 th, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Act of 2018 became law. This legislation, which was supported by MOPH, provides an increase of 2.8 percent to the rates of veterans' disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, clothing allowances for certain disabled veterans, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children. COLA increases are calculated each year to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index. The intent of this is to ensure that VA benefits keep pace with inflation. This year s 2.8 percent COLA represents the largest increase to VA benefits since 2012, and will be reflected in payments set to go out beginning on January 1, Social Security benefits will also receive the same 2.8 percent increase.
