3 1 INTRODUCTION This deliverable is part of the cluster activities and collaboration between PRO- IDEAL PLUS and FORESTA to identify: - EU-LA relevant initiatives on international cooperation, and consolidate the list of such initiatives/projects into an additional deliverable (D1.1a. Consolidated list of international cooperation initiatives, together with FORESTA). - Complementary national/regional funding mechanisms in the target countries and consolidate the findings of both projects (D1.2a. Consolidated report on funding mechanisms to ICT research activities in LA target countries, together with FORESTA). To perform this task, PRO-IDEAL PLUS and FORESTA worked in parallel towards identifying projects and initiatives on international cooperation in Latin America and national/regional funding mechanisms in their target countries, as foreseen in their work plans, and afterwards they have exchanged the corresponding deliverables in a collaborative spirit. PRO-IDEAL PLUS: D.1.2 Status quo of complementary funding mechanisms to ICT research activities in LA target countries FORESTA: D4.1 Study on FP and other projects in international research D4.2 Study on Latin America national funding agencies action in international cooperation projects The above projects deliverables address common topics related to ICT cooperation between EU-Latin America from different approaches, but with similar or complementary results. This Deliverable D1.1a Consolidated list of international cooperation initiatives is based on PRO-IDEAL PLUS D1.2 and FORESTA D4.1 and includes a compilation of the most relevant initiatives/projects related to ICT. Overall, the consolidated list contains 45 projects, from the following programs: FP7 Cooperation ICT FP7 Capacities International Cooperation FP7 Capacities Research s FP7 Capacities - Science in Society FP7 People - Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES) This database serves as baseline for future international cooperation activities, in order to get a broader perspective of Latin American activities and participation in FP7, especially in ICT R&D activities. The following sections show the lists of ICT related projects and the participation of the FORESTA and PRO-IDEAL PLUS target countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Colombia targeted by both projects, and Costa Rica and Cuba only by PRO-IDEAL PLUS). 4 2 CONSOLIDATED LIST OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FP7 PROJECTS The consolidated list of initiatives / projects involving Latin American participants includes 45 projects of FP7 Cooperation - ICT, Capacities, including ICT, International Cooperation (INCO), Research s (INFRA), Science in Society (SIS) and People Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES). The majority of the projects are included in the documents of PRO-IDEAL PLUS and FORESTA. It is noteworthy to say that FORESTA took into account projects of the SIS and IRSES programs in its study, while these programmes were out of scope of the objectives of PRO-IDEAL PLUS. The following table shows the updated list of running projects classified into colours: Blue: Information contained in the lists of PRO-IDEAL and FORESTA (51% of total projects). Green: Information that is only found in the documents of PRO-IDEAL PLUS (27% of total project). Orange: Information that is only found in the lists and documents of FORESTA (22% of total project), most of them SIS and People IRSES projects. It also includes the participation of FORESTA and PRO-IDEAL PLUS target countries in FP7 projects. Brazil leads the ranking with 21 projects, followed by Chile (16), Mexico (15), Argentina (12) and Colombia (9), while Costa Rica and Cuba only participate in 2 projects. Brazil is involved in most of these projects (10), while Argentina and Colombia participate in 6 and 5 projects respectively. In this program, Mexico leads the ranking of participation with 5 projects, followed by Brazil with 3 projects.
