December December December Describe any challenges in completing the activities requiring assistance from the Project Director or other College staff: The largest challenge is the production time in creating, developing, revising, finalizing, translating and then printing the marketing materials. We focused our efforts on developing one page flyers first, and are now working on tri-fold brochures and will soon finalize the larger marketing pieces that contain multiple pages of content. Provided New Student Orientation workshops at Hart District High Schools during May. Provided campus tour and new student orientation on May 13th for Evergreen Continuation High School students (high school located in Sylmar with a predominantly Latino student population} Met with Hart District personnel (GVHS principal, counselors from 3 high schools, district EL coordinator) to discuss Latino outreach ideas for 2015/16. Hosted a group of ESL students from Hart High on May 28th. Coordinated career assessments, admissions/residency appointments, ESL assessment and college expectations workshops. The & School Relations department is working with Olga Lavalle, Canyon High School counselor to coordinate a Spanish version of the College Information Night that the college held in January 2015 for all Hart District seniors and parents. The information session will be held at Canyon High School on May 4th and all senior Latino students and parents will be invited to attend. The high schools will promote the event to student and parents in both Spanish and English through daily announcements, phone messages and s. An event flyer, presentation and new student informational materials were developed in support of the Spanish College Night. Examples include, matriculation steps, educational options and available student support services. Coordinated a collaboration meeting with Hart District personnel to discuss the objectives and time line of the Title V grant, gain a better understanding of current Latino student/family support offered by the Hart District and strategize new Latino recruitment and outreach efforts for the 2015/16 academic year.
