14 THE LIBRARY WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY A service which supports: Learning Research Teaching Management Society Mission: The library is the management unit for the information resources which the University Community may need to fulfill its teaching, study, research and university extension course objectives The main purpose of the library is to facilitate access and dissemination of all the information resources which make up the patrimony of the university, as well as to collaborate in the processes of the development of knowledge. 18 What does the University Library offer you? (I) A reading room: in every library, in every centre. The University Library as a whole has more than 1,000,000 documents. Timetable: from 8:30 to 20:30h, from Monday to Friday. Special timetables: during holiday periods this timetable may be reduced. Night study rooms: during exam periods (December, February, June and September) specific study rooms will be made available for use during the night. Information and references: an information and advisory service is offered by the library to facilitate the search for information. Training of Erasmus Students

19 What does the University Library offer you? (II) An electronic library: an electronic acess to the most prestigous information rescourses provided by database providers and from electronic journals,books dictionaries and encyclopedias. These may be consulted in the installations of the library or from your own home. (connection VPN). Free internet access: all the libraries have computers with free internet connection available for your use. Reproduction: all the libraries have the means of reproducing documents available for your use. (III) Loan of documents: it is necessary to have a university card to be able to take out documents. - Various types: library lending, inter-library lending, online lending (CBUA), inter-campus lending. - Lending management: on-line renovation and reservation of documents. Loan of electronic documents: all the libraries have electronic readers, and in some centres lap-top computers are available.
