4 2015 RYLA Process Step 1. Student completes ONLINE Request for Application (RFA). (beginning January 2015) Step 2. District committee forwards full electronic student applications to the Clubs for review. (January 2015 to April 2015) Step 3. Clubs will use their normal selection process (interviews, etc) to approve students they wish to sponsor. (January 2015 to April 2015) Step 4. Clubs will notify District Committee by which applications they have approved and wish to sponsor. (April 15, 2015) Step 5. CLUBS WILL RECEIVE A $25 DISCOUNT PER CAMPER IF PAYMENT IS MADE BY APRIL 15, 2015! Make checks payable to Rotary District Step 6. Clubs will print the electronic applications of approved students and obtain pertinent medical information from the student and all required parent and club signatures. (January 2015 to May 2015) Step 7. Club will collect completed applications and mail or . 5 Important Dates to Remember January 1, 2015 Clubs begin the RYLA recruiting process. Call your school counselor. It is important to get the campers committed early. April 15, 2015 May 15, 2015 June 1, 2015 June 18, 2015 June 21, 2015 Payment due for early discount ($25). Make checks payable to Rotary District Clubs provide District names of campers they wish to sponsor. Applications submitted to the District. Mail to Clint Ishmael, 114 W. Wardville, Cleburne, Texas or scan and to Notify District who will be transporting your camper to RYLA. The sponsoring Rotary Club is responsible for transporting campers to and from RYLA. Send name and contact information to Janelle Kavanaugh at Sponsoring Rotary Club will transport campers to RYLA in Denton. Arrive 7:00-9:00 AM. Sponsoring Rotary Club will pick-up campers from RYLA in Denton. Depart 12:00-1:00 PM. 5
6 Frequently Asked Questions Q: How do students begin the 2015 RYLA process? A: All prospective students MUST complete the online Request for Application (RFA) form. The link for the 2015 online RFA is Q: How will the students get access to the online RFA form? A: The link for the 2015 online RFA is Club will also receive an notice with the link to the online RFA form and you may forward to the school or directly to students wishing to apply. The District Committee will also send out notices to schools and Interact Clubs in the District. All students who submit an online RFA form will require approval from the sponsoring Rotary Club. Q: How do I recruit students for RYLA? A: The best way to identify potential RYLA campers is contact your local school counselor. Explain the program to them and they will usually have recommendations for campers. Students of Rotary members are also encouraged to apply as well as other students the Club believes can benefit from the RYLA program. Q: How will my Club and the student parents sign all required paperwork? A: The District Committee will use the information from the online RFA form to produce a PDF full student application for the Clubs. The District will those full student applications with the student s information to the Club RYLA Chair. The full student application will contain the necessary waivers and releases that require both Parent and Club signatures. Q: What if our club knows a student we would like to sponsor? A: Great, have the student complete the online RFA form and the District committee will forward the full student application for your Club s approval. Q: Can we still use our normal interview process to select our students? A: Yes, all full student applications will be forwarded to the Clubs for approval. Just select the students you wish to interview and make the necessary arrangements. Q: What if I have additional questions? 7 Map to Texas Woman s University, Denton, TX The city of Denton sits at the top of a triangle, with Dallas to the southeast and Fort Worth to the southwest. Texas Woman s University s high-rise buildings are visible for miles, so keep an eye out for them as you approach Denton. US Highway 380 is the major east-west thoroughfare in Denton. Known in the city as University Drive, it borders the northern edge of the TWU campus. From Dallas Area Take Interstate 35E to Denton, exiting at Loop 288 (Denton/McKinney exit) and follow the TWU signs to the University Drive exit. Go west on University Drive. Follow University Drive to Bell Avenue, which runs through the heart of the TWU campus. Turn left on Bell Avenue. Immediately turn right into the parking lot of the Guinn-Stark residence halls (two tall towers). RYLA registration is in Guinn-Stark (the southwest corner of University Drive and Bell Avenue). OR From Fort Worth Area and From North Take Interstate 35W to Denton, exiting at University Drive (US 380). Go east right on University Drive. Follow University Drive to Bell Avenue, which runs through the TWU campus. Turn right on Bell Avenue. Immediately turn right into the parking lot of the Guinn-Stark residence halls (two tall towers). RYLA registration is in Guinn- Stark (the southwest corner of University Drive and Bell Avenue). Thursday, June 18th, 2015 Rotarians drive RYLA student participants to TWU in Denton. Registration is between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM Sunday, June 21st, 2015 Rotarians pick up students at TWU. Check out is 12:00 1:00 PM 7

District 5790 Health Form signed by parent 3. Texas Woman s University Liability Form signed by parent 4. Photo Release Form signed by parent 5. Challenge Course Release signed by parent 6. Check made payable to Rotary District 5790 $400 per camper if payment received by April 15 th or $425 per camper if payment received after April 15 th. A Rotary Club funds the sponsorship of the student(s). 7. Club contact person and contact numbers 8. Name and contact information of Rotarian transporting students to and from RYLA - This is a requirement of Rotary International. 9 2015 Items Needed for RYLA Stay PLEASE don t OVERPACK! We will be wearing our RYLA T-shirts most of the time. The T-Shirts are WHITE, so dark under garments may show underneath. Necessary items: Bedding Bath Items Clothing Four (4) RYLA t-shirts will be provided to each camper. NO tank tops, muscle shirts or half t-shirts are permitted. Sheets, blanket, and pillow (we will be staying in the dorms) Wash clothes, bath towels, flip-flops for room Shorts to be a 5 inseam or longer. No baggy or short shorts Sleepwear Jeans T-shirts Underwear Casual Clothing Workout Clothes Closed-toed Shoes (Tennis Shoes) Essentials Hygiene items Body & Hand Soaps Shampoo Deodorant Toothpaste & Toothbrush Sunscreen Alarm Clock Optional Items Musical Instruments Inexpensive cameras Kleenex Items Not Permitted Alcohol, or drugs Tobacco products including dip Laptops / ipads Proper Dinner Attire for Etiquette Program Young Women Dress Pant Suit Dress Shoes NO Sun Dresses please NO Flip Flops NO Jeans (Yes, we will all be dressed in our best clothing) Young Men Slacks Coat Tie Dress Shoes NO Flip Flops NO Jeans Note: We want our campers engaged during the activities so cell phones will be limited for use during free time. 9
10 What: District RYLA Fact Sheet Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - A Leadership Development Experience In 1971 Rotary International adopted RYLA an intensive leadership development program for youth leaders. When: June 18 th 21 st, 2015 Where: Who: Cost: Texas Woman s University in Denton, Texas Students must be a high school Junior or Senior in the Fall of Students must be between the ages of 16 and 18. Students should meet the following qualifications: Leadership experience or potential, demonstrated through participation in youth group or service activities. Cooperative nature and willingness to participate in a group. Awareness of current events. Strong communication skills. Good performance in school and work. Enthusiasm for sharing newly found skills. A Rotary Club funds the sponsorship of the participant(s). $400 per camper if payment received by April 15 th, or $425 per camper if payment received after April 15 th. Check payable to Rotary District The RYLA Program is led in a professional, collegiate atmosphere where participants will: Develop leadership skills with the assistance of experts in social development in a hands-on environment. Increase self-confidence and enhance teamwork skills through participation in challenge course exercises. Learn proper social and business etiquette while participating in a formal dinner event. Explore a City government process through participating in a mock City Council Meeting. Expand their civic and patriotic skills in ethics and responsibility classes. Learn about the purpose and objectives of Rotary International while attending a Rotary club meeting. Learn about the Rotary Four Way Test. Participate in a community service project. Participate in problem solving exercises and programs designed to develop leadership skills. RYLA aims to: Demonstrate Rotary s respect and concern for young people. Introduce leadership concepts for youth leaders. Encourage leadership of youth by youth Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities. RYLA provides: An introduction of a variety of issues and people. An opportunity to make new friends. 10
