African American Education Program Multicultural Achievement Scholarships - $1,500-5 awards Applications available at AEP Office, Monroe 204. Entering first-year (freshmen) students or transfer students with a demonstrated commitment to promoting the African American Community. Avista Scholarship - $1,500-1 award Applications available in the AEP Office, Monroe 204. Open to undergraduate students only. Students from geographic areas served by Avista Corp., with 2.5+ GPA seeking a degree in accounting, biology/chemistry, business, communications, computer science/technology, economics, mathematics, natural sciences or government. Hayes Scholarship - $ award Applications available at AAEP Office, Monroe 204. Open to undergraduate students only. For students with a 2.5 minimum G..P.A., who are pursuing a degree (declared major/admitted) in the College of Business and Public Administration and/or the Urban and Regional Planning Program. Must have a demonstrated financial need. Minnie Whittenbach Memorial Scholarship - $1,500-1 award Applications available at AAEP Office, Monroe 204. First-year, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or transfer students interested in majoring in any Health Science field. Applications for the four scholarships above are available only through the Africana Education Program office. Florence and Earle Steward Book Scholarship Applications available at Academic Affairs, Showalter 220. This scholarship provides funds to purchase books to enhance students personal library (no textbooks) and tickets to cultural events, such as performances of the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, the theater or art exhibits. Applications are available the first two weeks of each quarter. AAUW Scholarship Applications available at the Womens Studies Program, Monroe Hall 207. Provides scholarships for women who are at least 25 years of age. Check with Womens Studies about deadline. H.O.M.E. Child Care Scholarship Applications available at the H.O.M.E. Offers alcohol/drug assessments and treatments and referrals, methadone treatment, counseling, ADATSA assessment and youth assessment and referral. Offers services to pregnant and postpartum substance abusing women with follow-up. AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) (509) (24 hr. line) 1614 West Riverside, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday. 9 am-5pm, Sat. 9 am-1pm. FREE. A fellowship of men and women who share their experiences so they may solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership or attendance at meetings is a desire to stop drinking. Primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Suicide Prevention Resources (509) First Call For Help. 24 hr. telephone information, assistance, referrals, and supportive listening. Basic Health Plan ~ PO Box 42683, Olympia, WA Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm. Fees vary. A statewide program to provide affordable health care coverage. Individuals and families who meet income guidelines pay a reduced monthly premium for services from private health plans. Call to receive an application and a premium estimate. ( Dental Hygiene Clinic (EWU) (509) ~ 310 North Riverpointe Blvd., Spokane, WA Appointments required. Provides services for teeth cleaning, X-rays, dental exams, and minor fillings. The average fee is $54-91 for average adult cleaning with fluoride/dental exams. Inland Empire Task Force on Eating Disorders (509) ~ St. Luke s, 715 South Cowley, Suite 324, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 8am-5 pm. A group of health professionals united to establish a comprehensive approach for prevention, identification, and treatment of disordered eating. Poison Center Emergency Telephone Number Free. Provides 24/7 emergency telephone assessment and treatment referrals for victims of poisoning and overdose incidents. Bilingual services provided at AT&T language line interpreter service.

Provides support to individuals discriminated against in purchasing or renting homes, or obtaining financing for rentals. 24-hour answering machine, calls returned the next business day. American Credit Counseling Service, Inc ~ 59 East Queen, Suite #201, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm or by appointment. Free or sliding scale fee. Assistance includes no-cost budget planning; credit counseling; debt mediation services (will assist with any type of debt); help with credit report problems; assistance in the process to regain good credit standing; mortgage foreclosure prevention; if a debt management program is needed there is a small sliding fee. Attorney General s Office/Consumer Protection (509) or ~ County Court House, 1116 W. Riverside, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Free. Helps with consumers problems and business complaints. Also handles auto repair problems and mail order fraud. They cannot act as a private attorney. Brings lawsuits on behalf of citizens of the State of Washington when numerous complaints have been filed. Children s Waiting Room (509) ~ Broadway Centre Building, 721 N. Jefferson, Rm. #101, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. (12-1 Closed for Lunch) Free. The Children s Waiting Room is a staffed child care area available at the Spokane County Courthouse. It is a free service to parents/guardians conducting courthouse business. Space is limited/first-come, first-served. Domestic violence cases have priority. Consumer Credit Counseling Services (509) or ~ 1912 N. Division, Suite 100, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. $30 a month, can be waived. Provides an alternative program to bankruptcy; teaches people how to budget; provides a money control, behavior modification workshop and financial education for high school students. Debt management program maximum fee is $30 per month (will waive); some classes have fee. Other workshops include: Home Buying in Today s Market, Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit, Personal Finance 101, A Penny Saved. Counseling available evenings and Saturdays as well. Provides 24 hr. toll free phone counseling. Office for Civil Rights ~ 2201 Sixth Ave., MS RX-11, Suite 900, Seattle, WA ~ Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Free. A Federal agency that enforces Federal laws prohibiting discrimination in programs which receive financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Provides continuous voter registration, transfer of registration, and cancellation of voter registration for all county elections. Provides absentee ballots for all elections and ongoing absentee ballots for all registered voters. Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Spokane (509) ~ 2659 North Ash, Spokane, WA Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, except Thursday Noon - 8pm. Free. Provides free pregnancy testing; early prenatal care; pregnancy education & counseling on all options. Offers a summer youth litter control employment program for ages and also hires supervisors.

23 CREATING A NEW BLACKBOARD ACCOUNT (You may need to use a Blackboard account to complete some of your course work) To create a new Blackboard Account: 1. Go to the Blackboard Web page at: 2. Click the Create, Account button on the main Blackboard page. The Create New Account form opens. 3. Fill out the form and click the Submit button. You will now have a page in Blackboard.
