3 About city of Lodz: Lodz, the former textile industry empire, today is a city of modern technologies, a city of culture and grand events. It is a metropolis where a landscape of industrial architecture mixes with silhouettes of the 20th century office buildings, production halls, culture and sports buildings. Lodz is situated 125 km away from Warsaw. Lodz is one of the largest cities in Poland (3rd place). In 1423 King Władysław Jagiełło granted city rights to the village of Łódź. The city's name translated literally means a boat.

6 Courses in Polish Our students have a possibility to study in the frame of 95 programmes and 158 specializations at 12 Faculties, as well as in the Branch in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Among them are so modern programmes as Ecobusiness Economy, Data Analysis, Business Linguistics, Banking and Digital Finance, Geomonitoring, Biotechnology, Genetics, Informatics and Econometrics, Enterpreneurship and Innovation Management, Nanotechnology, Cosmetic Chemistry or Information in Digital Environment. Part of those programmes were created in cooperation with business Polish and international companies, which are official partners of the University of Lodz. They are famous corporations like Infosys, Accenture, Deloite, HP, Dachser Intelligent Logistics, MakoLab, LSI Software, BSH, Albéa, Sandoz, CitiBank, Transition Technologies and mbank.

16 International Programmes University of Lodz actively participates in many international programmes. Among them are: Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, Campus Europae, FSS-Mécanisme Financier Norvégien, CEEPUS, DAAD, Fulbright, Bourses du Gouvernement Français, Grundtvig, Jean Monet. According to the national statistics concerning Erasmus+, the University of Lodz holds 1st position in the Staff Mobility for Teaching Assignments, and 5th in Student Mobility ranking.

17 International educational projects UL actively participates in various international projects that are aimed at improving the quality and increasing the attractiveness of its educational offer. Currently 58 projects under the educational programmes that are co-financed by the European Commission, including the Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus, Grundtvig, Leonardo da Vinci and Transversal, Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, Culture, Tempus, Jean Monnet and others). Projects with coordination (started in 2016): Development of CBRN training programme for police officers, Supporting Integration of Migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees, Support for European Union action in the field of CBRN security managers education.

The University of Lodz is one of the leaders among Polish universities in the number of research projects financed by Horizon Research Center The main role of the Research Center is to initiate and support activities, which have positive impact on university development and internationalization. Center supports academics in choosing the most relevant program, structure their ideas into a project, build an international partnership and apply for a grant.

Number of international students The number of international students is growing each year. In 2016/2017 academic year, the UL is hosting over 2100 students.

The number includes the enrollment for full-time (i.e. degree) studies as well as different kinds of one-semester student exchange programmes. Most of our foreign students come from: Ukraine, Turkey, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Portugal and Spain.

The School of Polish for Foreigners The School of Polish for Foreigners at the University of Lodz is the biggest and the oldest school in its category in Poland. It has been in operation since 1952.

It has been in operation since It arranges basic Polish language courses as well as specialized Polish language courses for history, geography, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and philosophy. Students can enroll in one-month, five-month or ninemonth courses.

Accommodation/Facilities It is available in one of the University s 10 dormitories. Students live in twin-bedded rooms and have a direct access to a kitchen and shower.
